Mainliner: Mellow Out
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Among the most rotten records I own. From the Rising Sun, year 1996. I don't know how to define them. Like a filthy and rancid bootleg of Comets On Fire (who didn't even exist in '96) played in symbiosis with Metal Machine Music. But even more warped and recorded with a bad setup. An assault on the neurons (and on the eardrums).

I have it too, on vinyl. All fuchsia. I fell in love with it at first listen, the riff of "Black Sky" is something monstrous and super cool. Really, there are no words. I don’t know if you’ve listened to it yet, but also with Kawabata, I highly recommend the first Musica Transonic, which is even more full-tilt noise. And there’s also the self-titled debut from Purling Hiss, which is another crazy delirium...

Since we have similar tastes and we both drool over psychedelia, I also recommend "Out" by White Heaven, another Japanese band. I swear, don’t pay attention to what I wrote in the review here, that album is one of the highest peaks ever reached by psychedelia. That album is rotten, the guitars and the vocals sound like they're melted by the sun (there’s Michio Kurihara, no joke), the drums are minimal and the bass takes center stage, except for two minor rock tracks, the rest is pure gold. I keep it like a relic in my room.

My dear, "Out" is among my favorite albums from the '90s :-) I also have it on vinyl... I didn't specify while collecting ahahaah... of course, you love the Ghosts too...

Sorry for the presumption, it's just that when it comes to records like these, you never know. Anyway, I'm glad you like it, but it couldn't be otherwise, haha! The Ghosts have also done memorable things, "Agate Scape" and "Summer's Ashen Fable" in particular hold a special place in my little heart, but the first self-titled one is beautiful too. How did you find the latest Mainliner that came out recently? I can't listen to this stuff anymore because I've gotten tired of spending 30 euros on new headphones every time. :-)

What a presumption. Let's call it enthusiasm. I also get carried away talking about music and records, and sometimes I might come off as a show-off, but it’s pure enthusiasm driven by my love for this art. No, I only have this one from Mainliner; I found it in Rome, can you imagine, years ago at a hippie's stall. I also picked up the second one from 35007, another amazing band, but they're Dutch... I especially adore Ghost for 'Lama Rabi Rabi'.

In fact, the two titles I mentioned are the last two tracks from "Lama Rabi Rabi." What an amazing album that is. Anyway, your "Mellow Out" should be the first limited edition vinyl pressing, cool. I read something about the 35007 a while ago, but I can’t remember where; I removed it from my mind.

Red vinyl...yes, I actually paid a good amount to the guy and he told me it was quite rare. I highly recommend the 35007, especially the EP 'Sea of Tranquillity' and the album 'Liquid'...but also 'Into The Void We Travelled' (which I bought from the guy upstairs) and the latest, quieter and even more extended 'Phase V'...one of the greatest bands to emerge in the old continent in the last 20 years.

Yes, exactly red vinyl. Of these 35007, I've searched and found only the first one, "Especially for You," on CD. I'm interested mainly because, in your definition, you mentioned Electric Wizard, of which I'm (you have no idea how much) longing for "Dopethrone" and "Come My Fanatics." Right now, I'm tuned into stoner, but I can't find anything around. Actually, at Soul Food, they had Fu Manchu.
Manic Street Preachers: The Holy Bible
CD Audio I have it ★★★
While organizing my things nicely, I found records I bought 20 years ago from bands whose existence I had forgotten. This is one of those. I listened to it again today... just to jog my memory. Nice. And dated. Now it can go back to the oblivion, where it deserves to be.

And who remembers it! I remember one of them vanished into thin air, I think it was the guitarist.
Mark Lanegan: Scraps At Midnight
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
After that indescribable masterpiece that was "Whiskey For the Holy Ghost," Lanegan cleans himself up and returns with this excellent work of dark folk songs. At the time, I expected more after the previous masterpiece, but this is still quite an excellent album! "Bell Black Ocean" brings tears...
Marlene Kuntz: Ho Ucciso Paranoia
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
A truly great album, in my opinion one of the best Italian records of the '90s, and at the same time, in my view, the only real great album they ever made. Well, we all know how it ended up, becoming truly repellent and irritating to me.

Mayo Thompson: Corky's Debt to His Father

Work from 1970 by Mayo Thompson of the Red Krayola. Beautiful album. Between Americana, Country Rock/Folk, and lysergic emanations.

Ah, what a beautiful thrill to the heart! It belongs to that select circle of works - like Oar by Skip Spence, like The Cycle is Complete by Bruce Palmer - that somewhat create a school of their own, that can encompass all the genres you rightly mention but ultimately end up being simply uncategorizable and, above all, incomparable. They all remind you of something without truly recalling anyone. Mayo's "lo-fi" approach on this album (almost thirty years ahead of the so-called slackers...) really makes me smile, especially considering that years later the same Thompson will be one of the most sought-after producers from post-punk to indie-rock on both sides of the Ocean.

Meat Puppets: Meat Puppets
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
The first two of the carne puppets are disks that drive me crazy because I love them so much. While in the subsequent "II" they can be found playing a sort of crazily energetic country&western with the grace of the dirtiest punk rockers, here it’s just pure hardcore madness. Recorded, by their own admission, with too much acid in circulation, it’s one of the dirtiest and most sick records of punk. Awkward tracks, a high Beefheart shouting and howling disjointed phrases at the helm of a hardcore combo that...

Melvins: Stag
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
One of the most "drinkable" works from my favorite crazy geniuses. Drinkable, of course, applied to the Melvins. So here we go with smoothness, featuring genius oddities complete with horns ["Bar-X-The Rocking M"], funeral marches from heroin addicts ['Goggles"], deformed pop songs ["Skin Horse," beautiful] and even a sort of lullaby ["Black Bock"] that induces dreams that are anything but golden... I love them.
