I hate my idiosyncrasy with sung/Brazilian Portuguese, which prevents me from fully enjoying truly beautiful albums like his, those by Veloso, Gil, etc. Ugh.

Oh, we already talked some time ago about your linguistic aversion, if I remember correctly regarding the Mutantes. At one time I had the same issue you do. I've gotten over it. It's basically just a matter of words. I now tend to associate the voice with another instrument, so, for me, they could even sing me the recipe for Gatto alla Vicentina in Bergamasque dialect and the result on me wouldn't change much. Beautiful, my dear.

I hope to get through it as well, considering I have no issues with Norwegian or Swedish singing either.

When I am ashes, let this album be buried together with my remains.
Genesis: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Vinile I have it ★★★★
Anyone familiar with me knows that I don't particularly appreciate this band. But for some strange reason, I quite like this hefty brick, and not a little. Even though I haven't put it on in eons. This is 'Nursery Cryme'. Chapeau Peter.

I have the vinyl of this, even though it's in pieces, and I never liked it, I'll tell you. Foxtrot for life!

What the hell, I've been hit with a series of Bel and Brut all at once. Am I the only one who can't stand Genesis? I've never been able to finish one of their albums.

You’re all idiots, except for Silas :D One of the albums of my life, but you probably already knew that...

Foxtrot, selling, trespass, nursery, I prefer them all to this. Hj, think, I even prefer the legendary live from '73!

I don't like Genesis. I'm crazy about a lot of prog in general... Except for 'Nursery Cryme' and, indeed, this. So my opinion doesn't count.

"But am I the only one who can't stand Genesis? I've never been able to finish one of their albums." The secret is all in letting them go, Gianluigi. I can't stand Springsteen and I would never dream of listening to one of his albums all the way through. This album is fantastic.

So, are you Gianluigi? You seemed 'familiar' to me... XD What’s with the change of clothes?

I changed my email and thought I had to change the account as well. Now I'm leaving this one, better than Gianluigi67, also because my name is Andrea. Ah Ah, I'm like Prince, actually the one who used to be called Prince.

But is it a song by Buckley "Buzzin' Fly"? It sounds strangely familiar to me...

Genesis: Nursery Cryme
Vinile I have it ★★★★
The Genesis: one of those bands that have always left me indifferent. Pompous, baroque, basically everything I don’t want from rock n' roll... With the exception of this album. Which is indeed a great album. It deserves a solid 4.5. Honor to the great Peter Gabriel, anyway...

5 in full Silas! I'm sorry, but I'm not objective; for me, it's an aesthetically overwhelming album. I believe that the Genesis had already expressed their artistic level here; that's how I see it. Then, as we know, the rest came. But if I had to take only one album of theirs with me, "Nursery Cryme" would be the chosen one. Sentimental reasons, "Nursery" accompanied me throughout '71, it was one of those magical years!

A very unique album: Victorian lyrics that in the future Gabriel won't create anymore except for something in the Lamb (the Lamia and Colony), more rock in my opinion than the two that will follow, an amazing albeit brief solo by Hackett that closes Fountain and thus the whole album. 5 for life.

Hj what do you want me to do? I'm a Punk inside... too many refinements I abhor! Rn'R must keep that rough, animalistic, instinctive, and sickly quality to win me over. Otherwise, I'll put on Franz Liszt...

P.S. Baroque styles give me hives. But this is a great album. I also don't mind something from The Lamb..

Indeed, this is a track that appeals to (almost) all non-Genesis admirers, and in spite of that, you've made me crave Genesis again haha :)
  • SilasLang
    25 jul 13
Yeah! Maybe because it's still a pretty "direct" and dry record, compared to, say, "Selling England"... Anyway, yes! Talking about Genesis made me want to put on another Genesis album... In fact, now I'm going to blast Throbbing Gristle, alright.

This, Foxtrot, and especially Selling England are fantastic, Musical Box stands out, among the best works of the '70s.
Ghost: Lama Rabi Rabi
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
One of the greatest bands from the Land of the Rising Sun. This is their masterpiece in my opinion. A delirious trip lasting an hour where east and west copulate frantically high on DMT. A long and psychedelic mystical ritual, dancing together with the spirits of the forests.

"Hypnotic Underworld" is also very beautiful, and the one with Damon & Naomi is good too... then I don't know! They keep releasing albums one after another.

Disk of another reality, frightening, for large stretches it has little to do even with rock... the first piece is the soundtrack of a Central Asian caravan...

how evocative the whole album is, after all. If it also happens to be the first one you hear from Ghost, it more or less has the effect of a bolt of lightning.

Yes, it was the first. Found, I don't know how, among the used ones in a little shop that usually only has junk. I didn't even remember having it on the list, I didn’t even know the cover; if I had paused for a moment less, I would have lost it. The best for me are the last two, psychedelic gems of rare beauty and among my all-time favorites.

Grateful Dead: Anthem Of The Sun
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
Every now and then a bit of psychoactive mold doesn’t hurt. The best Dead shows were seen live, amidst an acid trip and a cathartic dance (the true precursors of illegal raves), but their second album remains a masterpiece. Expansive and psychedelic, here they also flirted with classical and concrete music, thanks to the entry of that genius Tom Constanten into the combo. The best era of the Dead. Then they left the Moon, Pigpen passed away, and they became a ridiculous souvenir band for old hippies.
Grateful Dead: Workingman's Dead
Vinile I have it ★★★★
Great album that brings the band back to the roots (Roots, indeed) of the most rural folk and country rock, after the acid apotheosis of Live/Dead. The latest studio work by the Dead, which I adore from start to finish. After that, I pretty much abandoned them. 4.5 for this, anyway.

Even American Beauty isn't bad at all. Along with these, they are the last official studio recordings of poor Ron McKernan.
Guided by Voices: Alien Lanes
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
It may not achieve that 'putrid' perfection of works like "Propeller" and "Bee Thousand," which, in my opinion, are peaks never again reached by that old drunk Pollard and his tipsy companions. Nonetheless, it’s a small masterpiece as well. Chock-full of genuinely wonderful, wonderfully silly pop song gems. Analog recording (so... with ass). Perfection.

Well, what can I say... I find it hard to say that I like this gentleman (and his partner Tobin Sprout, the indispensable guitar arm of the Ohio deus ex machina) a bit less or that there are flaws, etc. Regarding "Alien Lanes," I once said that if the Monkees had come after the Fall and before Pavement, if the Beatles (or the Velvets?) had wanted to reform with Jad Fair, and if the Swell Maps, instead of breaking up, had wanted to go down in history by recording in the Northwest under the name Beat Happening... well, there you go.
