Folk songs in a precarious balance between dreaminess and mental illness. Skip Spence recorded it all in a single day, playing all the instruments, after being discharged from a psychiatric hospital, where he was committed after attacking the members of his previous band (Moby Grape) with an axe while under the influence of too much LSD. Beautiful.

Oh... here we are!!!! how beautiful is this work? When great inspiration shortens the time of creation and the result is a total solipsistic masterpiece. Only a few so far have been able to accomplish this. Like Syd, "Skip" gave birth in no time at all without vomiting, a highly formalized pseudo-improvisation with no signs of weakness whatsoever. Everyone, everyone should have this little-known vintage work in their collection.

After that masterpiece of "God's Dick," this sort of commune of drugged-out hippies returns with an equally great work. Slightly more polished than the previous one, but just as acid and delirious, perhaps more "prog," whether consciously or not. Another milestone of German krautrock psychedelia.

Antipop Consortium: arrhythmia
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Among the coolest Hip-Hop albums released in the last decade, in the opinion of the writer. Here the beats become epileptic, fragmented, clearly in the Warp school. In fact, the album was released under Warp Records, the label that has produced amazing stuff like Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards Of Canada, and a good 80% of the coolest and most revolutionary electronic music of the last 25 years.
  • Too bad they didn’t sell a damn thing, got kicked out of Warp, and the next one came many years later, with them super depressed and without the groove of this. 2002 was more or less the year that Rap-Trendy kicked off, and they felt the consequences fully. If they had teamed up with El-P, the result would have been different.

Yeah, it's really a shame... I do remember, though, that not long ago you published a couple of Italian contemporary mc's that were quite good, but for one reason or another I didn't jot them down and now I can't recall which ones they were. They were people I didn't know, but really not bad at all, stuff that almost gives me hope again. I think one of them was like a very young Neapolitan guy.

This has little to do with the beautiful #1... here everything is approximate, Chilton had gone off the rails and practically the band no longer existed... but it’s one of those masterpieces of fragility and madness. One of my all-time favorite albums. I highly recommend it to you.
  • SilasLang
    7 apr 14
P.S. I also recommend "Like Flies on Sherbert," a solo album by Chilton at the height of his late '70s mental debauchery... a low-fidelity delirium with no head or tail, but very fascinating, for all I care :-)

Let’s say that when it comes to Big Star, one shouldn’t be stingy, rather one should do like with a pig, of which it is well known that nothing goes to waste, but truly nothing, not a single second of what Chilton/Bell and their associates recorded. As for Chilton’s solo work, the most alcoholically deranged for me is "Bach's Bottom"; here, "low fidelity rock'n'roll" is above all a state of mind and a lifestyle more than a musical genre.

I agree with you about the intrigues of the Church. I often think about the human delirium we've reached: respectability & clientelism, bigotry & hypocrisy! Christians are the sheep led to slaughter by the ecclesiastical shepherds who hold the knife from the right side. What the "high" want to instill in the "low" is doused with perfume to mislead the mind. For centuries, the Church has taken advantage of the least informed, and it will always do so as long as it exists: there is no escape! Unfortunately, we live in this world of plunder and brainwashing.

Album I recently discovered, even though I adore these crazy folks from the Land of the Rising Sun. Anyway, another masterpiece.

These Japanese never disappoint. In this album, we find them more off-kilter than ever, with messed-up drum machines, random filters, cheap electornica, totally unbalanced volumes, janky fuzz, almost-"""dance""" beats, and sudden bursts of white noise thrown in chaotically. God, I love them! Ps. I'm talking about the Japanese version, of course, not the American one.

Brainiac: Bonsai Superstar

Among the most underrated and brilliant bands ever. Ragged skeletons of epileptic songs that seem poised to get lost in chaos at any moment, noise dissonances, Talking Heads sodomized by Glenn Branca...boooh...enough with the fantasies of 'professional' reviewers...a masterpiece for me. I've worn it out. They lasted too little time, and were 'shat' upon too little...A sort of Minutemen of the '90s, in intent. Absolutely great.
