Afghan Whigs: Congregation
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
One of the greatest albums (with one of the two most beautiful covers) of the Seattle '90s, superior, often by a considerable margin, to other titles that are far more celebrated and fortunate (like Ten by Pearl Jam, for example).

Just the other day, I listened to "Gentleman" again. I didn’t remember it being so beautiful; it’s only now that I understand. I don’t have this, when I find money in my pocket, I’ll definitely manage! (In reality, I listened to it about ten years ago but I really don’t remember anything.)

indeed the texts were on another level. Then Ten remains a classic, for sure, but this perfectly fits what I’ve always understood as AUTHORial Rock. Even Up In It, Gentlemen which is monstrous, built with a passion, an internal tightness... a crescendo to the goosebump-inducing instrumental closure. They won't come out with these Albums anymore.

With the "hidden" tribute to that important figure who was Miles Davis. I'm not entirely convinced of his superiority compared to Ten, the debut of Pearl Jam: let's say it's a Solomon-like tie.

As I have already written elsewhere, in my opinion the best the Pearl Jam ever gave was after (Vitalogy and No Code). Ten struck me from the first listen with those 4-5 great songs; the rest never convinced me completely. I've always felt a noticeable decline in the second half in particular. In short, for me, it’s the classic album that lives off a few great tracks and not much else. However, I know there are many (and I mean many) people who consider it their absolute best.

I, dear madcat, can judge Ten from the moment it was released: my age allows me to do so, unfortunately or fortunately. And believe me, 1991 was a sensational year with Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden, just to mention three remarkable examples of album releases. And Vedder's band during those years was literally on fire, with concerts in small clubs that were truly turned upside down... City Square Milan June 1992: I was right in the front row, struggling, moshing, sweating, even shouting in pain from the hits taken and given... but what a thrill!!!

wonderful album, but I’m not the right person to judge, I adore Dulli and all his projects... saw them live a month ago and they are always immense... (am I the only one thinking that the Afghan Whigs have nothing to do with Seattle & grunge? like, nothing at all, right!? I don't know!? aside from that, you're right, it's one of the most beautiful records of the '90s)...

I have the big vinyl. But I've never loved this band. Tastes. Aside from 'Up In It'...the only one of the Afghans that I really liked. I don't know...I even saw them live.

ps. definitely better than 'Ten' ;) I’ve never loved that album, nor PJ in general (except for 'Vitalogy', which I really think is a great album..)

@Silas: "Never loved that album," referring to yours as Ten... I'll say it in the Abruzzese dialect, around Rivisondoli: te pozzane accide!!! Figuratively and hoping I wrote it correctly, or at least that the meaning is clear.

I've always preferred Black Love and of course Gentlemen, but it's still a great album. I feel in good company since I also don't love Ten obsessively; believe it or not, my favorite PJ album is Binaural! And enough with these PJ, Nirvana, and Soundgarden discussions, we all understand now that there was much more...

One of the greatest Italian albums of all time

Yes, it was a great album. For example, I didn’t listen to the next one at all. Then in '98, "Mediamente Isterica" came out, which I got on the day of its release. I still like it a lot, and it really feels like deep night... but back to the after, how is it not forever?

I don't agree, but not bad anyway.

    @[Psychopathia] very pooop
@[madcat] disco with some really beautiful tracks, but they could have trimmed the tracklist.

@[Psychopathia] actually went straight from "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" to "What Doesn’t Exist," I also got "Mediamente Isterica" in '98. (and "Campi di Popcorn," Grignani also came out with 2 great albums in the '90s, the one mentioned and "La fabbrica di Plastica" from '96) @[Loconweed] I really wouldn't know what to take out here, all great tracks for me.

    Undisputed symbol of the 90s!

But stop it! At this point, we’re in the “things said just for the sake of saying” category. If this is one of the best Italian records ever, I wonder what you would call Arbeit Macht Frei, La valle dei Templi, Storia di un Minuto, I buoni e i cattivi, Napoli Centrale, La Bibbia, La Buona Novella, Sulle Corde di Aries and many others. Madcat, I must confess your musical ignorance never ceases to amaze me. The difference between you and me is that I know this record, while you don’t know the ones I mentioned, even though I limited myself to the classics. You lack the basics, madcat. I repeat, the only solution to save the site from bankruptcy is just one: implement an entry filter. One day you will see I’m right. What a degradation.

Enough, I’m tired of fighting alone. Alright, you’ve won. Goodbye. And this time it’s for good. I’m done with you.

No Fantacoso, don’t go! Educate all the ignorant people on the site, sweep away the Blur and the Afterhours, and finally prepare the questions for the entrance test!

Now I’ll stop putting up with Afterhours just to spite Fantaman.

But Fantaman, who is the superhero that saves us from 'gnuranza? Personally, I don't even know the basics because I'm 'gnurante by nature. Listen, clear away Blur, Afterhours, Soundgarden—though I still don't quite understand why I know the others you write so well about up there, I also like Blur, Afterhours, and Soundgarden. Don't you? I don't get it.. @[Erzacchiu] come help us out.
