  Well, Miles considered free jazz to be saccharine and self-indulgent, and that's exactly why he ended up creating "Bitches Brew" and playing at hippie festivals... You put one of the most famous "antagonists" of the genre at number one.

  Miles believed free jazz was cloying and self-indulgent, and that's precisely why he ended up making "Bitches Brew" and playing at hippie festivals. And in the end, he played free jazz himself. I think he was just pulling everyone's leg.
