Pos.1 Can (Future Days, 1973): for me, the ranking is already perfect as it is.

more than anything: tago mago (1971), ege bamyasi (1972), future days (1973)... I mean, holy moly, do we realize this? this stuff is 40 years old!

It's astonishing to think how advanced they were, and they weren't the only ones, in Germania :D
  • hjhhjij
    22 apr 12
Well, they've come down, but at the first one there are the Soft Machine, so it's all good anyway :D

Hey, they're back on the Can!

I'm sorry, first I'll put all the scattered groups in the ranking and then I'll try to organize them; I'm still working on this. Just a moment.

But come on, I was just joking. Arrange it the way you think is best, it's your ranking :)

Here, it's already better, anyway Can n°1 obviously. Future Days is a crazy album.

The trilogy (to be honest, the entire discography) of Can is phenomenal, but I have to say that Future from the 3 is the one I like the least; Tago Mago, on the other hand, really stands out above everything, and Halleluwa is extraordinarily amazing.

Those three are pretty much on the same level. For me, the one that's slightly lower is Ege, while Tago Mago and Future Days are... I don't know yet. To put it this way, Ege is a 9, while the other two are off the charts.

Well, yes, in fact let's say that "complaining" at this level is really just for the spoiled :)

I have to say, "Tago Mago" is my absolute favorite Kraut record (not the best, just my favorite on a purely subjective level).

from me they fight yeti, tago mago and faust IV

Yeti damn, how beautiful it is! Also Faust IV, although my personal favorites from Faust are the first one and So Far equally (the first one is objectively more phaigo though). But there are also the cosmic ones, Schulze, Tangerine, Vuh, Tempel, Cosmic Jokers, how do we deal with these?

the first faust is objectively more faustian and important, but the IV is the one I listen to the most.. and even the II is not bad at all. the III is the one that “says the least” to me, and strangely I often read that many consider it the best... who knows

Even Faust Tapes is pretty solid, not just any old thing. I also listen to the IV more often than the previous ones, and it’s understandable, it’s gorgeous but much more accessible (and Krautrock is an absolute blast).

let's say that the third one, in my opinion, is the one that "adds the least" because the first is the most revolutionary and free; the second introduces for the first time references to the song form and in VI they reach their peak in that verse... so I see the third one as a kind of an extra-excellent transitional album, let's say.

Well, I see it as a free and unleashed album, almost as much as the first one; there’s all the Faustian poetics, in my opinion, of course. But it remains inferior to the first two, still in my opinion.

let's say the same discussion we had with the dogs still applies... it's just a matter of tastes and thousandths... ;)

Well, at this level, yes, it’s obvious. We’re certainly not discussing whether Faust IV is better than the latest one by Ligabue :D

And the Neu, the Cluster, the Kraftwerk! Wow, so many!

Well, they are all really cool bands, I would also add Ash Ra Tempel who released at least 3 masterpieces: s/t, Schwingungen, Join In... however, I prefer the more "rock" side of kraut to the kosmische one (in fact, for me, Ash Ra is fourth ;))

    • hjhhjij
      22 apr 12
I had mentioned the Tempel too oh :D I agree, 3 masterpieces, which you mentioned, and a great album, "Seven Up" (the one with Leary). Honestly, I can't tell you if I prefer the "rocky-hippie" part or the "cosmic" (and hippie) one, it depends a bit on the moment.

Oh, sorry, I must have dozed off... ^^ Well, in general, I prefer things more related to "rock" in a broad sense than things that are too abstract-minimal (with the due exceptions, of course, like Earth 2, I love it, but let's say it's a general tendency).
    • hjhhjij
      22 apr 12
I have the earth, but I haven't found the courage to approach them yet; sooner or later though ;) In the right moment, I could listen to something like "zeit" by Tangerine three times in a row. In the wrong moment, I would throw the record out of the window and delete the mp3 :D
    • jdv666
      22 apr 12
Well, it actually has to be taken at the right moment... at first, it felt like a joke to me, but now I love it (still in that direction, maybe you can try getting closer with "this is not a dream" by Dadamah and "bufo alvarius" by Bardo Bond, which is the reasoning I had since for me they go in increasing "difficulty" … but if you like krautrock by Faust, you should enjoy it! :))

I've heard Bardo Pond's name mentioned a lot (and positively) for quite some time, so I got my hands on the very first one from '95 that you mentioned. I listened to it once, but I didn't pay much attention due to time constraints. I'll give it another listen in the future because it definitely deserves it.

I prefer the 2 to the namesake because it’s more “tight”; even though negativeland is indeed a song for multiple disturbances.

I prefer the first and the third, but they're all at a 5 (in tenths, they range between 8.5 and 9+ more or less).

    very subjective, I would say...

Yes, quite subjective. I believe it's one of the rare cases of preference for 4th over Third for the Soft Machine. Anyway, not bad at all.

Very different from my personal tastes but interesting and intelligent.
