  If you don't know them, I would give a listen to the Afghan Whigs, who are less known compared to others but deserve a lot!

  I’ve only heard them mentioned. Then there are a bunch of other similar groups recommended to me, like Blind Melon, that I still need to listen to. In the end, I only put five because I always wonder if I have any sense in making these rankings.

  Well, the purpose of rankings is (at least for me) to discover and help others discover new bands! In the end, one should use their rankings to highlight interesting groups that can help both the newcomer (if, for example, I see Soundgarden and AIC almost all the time, they can't be bad) and maybe even the more seasoned user (see Afghan Whigs).
