Green River was a Seattle band formed in 1984, considered one of the progenitors of the grunge scene. Key members included Mark Arm, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Steve Turner and Alex Vincent. The group released Come On Down (EP), Dry As A Bone (EP) and Rehab Doll (LP) before disbanding in 1988.

Signed initially to Homestead and later associated with Sub Pop; members later formed Mudhoney (Arm, Turner) and Mother Love Bone/Pearl Jam (Gossard, Ament). Their records are noted in reviews as raw, hybrid blends of punk, garage and hard rock that influenced the Seattle scene.

Green River is treated in the reviews as a proto-grunge Seattle band whose raw EPs and LPs (Come On Down, Dry As A Bone, Rehab Doll) helped shape the scene. Reviewers highlight a hybrid sound mixing punk, garage and hard rock/metal elements. The records are described as historically important, raw and imperfect rather than polished masterpieces. Members later formed influential groups such as Mudhoney and Pearl Jam.
