Yes, but drum and bass is a whole other thing.

I agree with Bruford in first place, but PHIL COLLINS SECOND? Ahead of people like Colaiuta, Bozzio, Peart, Cobham? For me, that just doesn't exist.

@sellami: I know that drum&bass is something else, but I wanted to make this ranking and didn’t know where to put it.
@Claypool: It's always up for debate to place Collins high, but I have followed his technique for years and I assure you it’s imaginative, complex, and personal like few others. A couple of years ago, I spoke with Gregg Bendiam, the drummer who reformed Mahavishnu and is currently with the cover band Nusical Box. He is an exceptional drummer, and he also confirmed to me the great difficulty in picking up Collins' scores due to some of his personal and unique characteristics.

I never said that Collins is a hack, on the contrary, he must surely be a creative drummer, but from my ignorant perspective, I see other drummers as superior; I mean, Cobham is from another world in my opinion. This could also be influenced by some biases I have against Collins (let’s just say I don’t really like him), but people like the aforementioned Billy or Neil Peart are true human drum machines ("Spectrum" and Rush docet).

Nice ranking, much better these than those of real drum and bass :). I'm not an expert in technique, but I think the first place is deserved. Personally, I really appreciate Phil Rudd's simple style. But I would also include Chris Layton, and for Italy, I would have chosen Tullio. Cheers.

Well, for me, Neil Peart is unbeatable in rock (one could say he would masterfully play fusion too) and Steve Gadd is indispensable.

    Bruford is still Bruford...

No Di Cioccio doesn't say anything to me.

In my opinion, Phil Collins is overrated; compared to other rock legends, he’s almost a banal hitmaker. To each their own, though…

In the bassists, I would have included (high) Les Claypool (Primus) and Mark Sandman (Morphine). There, I said it!

What the heck, this ranking literally made me jump as soon as I saw the super-grandISSIMO unbeatable & monstrous Bruford in the first seat (I fully agree!), but then at number 2, I wonder what the heck a washing machine salesman ("PHILCO") has to do with it. Maximum respect for the attribution criteria, for goodness' sake, but with all due respect... I don't know?!?
