Sometimes, a song's verse is enough to express what a thousand words of any speech wouldn't be able to. The four lines of that verse, immediate, direct, and sincere, still carry a disarming power today. In a present dominated by endless rap lyrics, where often nothing is said, a song like Un Giorno Credi by Edoardo Bennato seems to be worth its weight in gold. But not only compared to other genres and artists. The song itself is already a small masterpiece, one that an artist can afford only once in a career. And it's the strength of the universal simplicity of its lyrics that is the winning formula of a timeless track, likely even a hundred years from now.
