In my modest opinion, they are exceedingly celebrated. Perhaps at the time they were also "ahead," but they were alongside many other kraut groups (Popul Vuh, Tangerine, Can, Faust, etc.) and I can't understand where all this musical "quality" comes from that (according to orthodox Scaruffi fans in particular) allows them to stand out on the 1970s German scene. Speaking of the first album, well... Hallogallo and Negativland are certainly two mantras worth mentioning, but the rest of the tracks drastically lowers the average quality for me. In my opinion, the trilogy of initial albums by Amon Duul II easily outclasses NEU! any day, but as always: de gustibus… For me, four stars for historical importance and courage, but the sonic outcomes of their conceptual albums bore me quite a bit.
