I rewrite the comment, which has evidently been misunderstood: being a great guitarist necessarily implies a certain type of technique, which does not come down only to speed and precision; there are a lot of factors to take into account. To say "he is a great guitarist but not technical" is a contradiction, and that's what I wanted someone to explain to me. more

I've always liked them, Frusciante is a great guitarist, not very technical (meaning he can't shred solos at a hundred miles an hour or span various musical genres like jazz, like Slash, you know) but with a great melodic sense. Once, when they were more strung out, they were funkier and "cooler," but hey... I still don't dislike them now. more

I have a fondness for "Californication" since I bought it when it was released and I was 7 years old, and listening to it again reminds me of my childhood. The rest of the discography...who knows?! They've got way too many badass albums and crappy ones. more

enigmatic and elusive, at his beginnings perhaps overly austere and jagged, it's not easy to give Him a precise definition, yet his legacy is so vast and universal that it can be understood and appreciated by all. "Recent Songs" is, in my opinion, the centerpiece of his entire discography, an album to be listened to preferably in the evening with closed eyes, after a long and demanding day, savoring it song by song, word by word, note by note. more
