Magma -Magma (Kobaïa)
Not everyone can debut with a double concept album sung in an invented language. 8.5 for one of the boldest debuts ever. more
Magma -1001° Centigrades
The suite is something incredible, the other two pieces are excellent. First masterpiece from this original Kobaian... erm, French band. 8.5 more
Stanley Kubrick -Orizzonti Di Gloria (Paths Of Glory)
Enormous film. Cruel, ruthless, cynical, Stanley Kubrick's first great masterpiece remains one of his most beautiful films even today. It has no flaws, the direction is marvelous, the screenplay is ironclad, and the performances of Kirk Douglas and McReady are absolutely stunning. Probably the greatest anti-militarist film of all time. The execution scene, in its simple, ruthless cruelty, has an impressive visual power. The ending is one of the deepest and most successful ever. more
Mario Monicelli -Amici Miei
Another great film by Mario Monicelli. 5 outstanding performances for the last masterpiece of Italian comedy, a fast-paced rhythm, hilarious situations, legendary gags (La supercazzola, the slaps to the passengers on the departing train) and a touching yet bitter ending that still includes some irreverent jests. The first sequel is good, but this first chapter from '75 remains unmatched. more
Sidney Lumet -Quel Pomeriggio Di Un Giorno Da Cani (Dogday Afternoon)
Another splendid gem from Sidney Lumet, Pacino and Cazale deliver magnificent performances, and the film flows smoothly until the dramatic finale. Based on a true story, it’s a film to watch and rewatch. Stunning. more
Martin Scorsese -Goodfellas - Quei Bravi Ragazzi
The masterpiece of Martin Scorsese from the '90s and one of his absolute best films (second only to Taxi and Raging Bull). Technically, it's monstrously perfect, very realistic and well-crafted, with actors in a state of grace, Liotta superb, Pesci phenomenal, De Niro impeccable, an impressive amount of memorable scenes; in short, an absolute masterpiece. For me, probably one of the best films of the '90s and the best gangster movie ever. Wonderful. more
Martin Scorsese -Mean Streets
Scorsese's first masterpiece. The director begins to tell about himself, about Little Italy, about his life and that of all the boys from the American neighborhood; to do so, he chooses as protagonists a close friend of his, Harvey Keitel (an outstanding performance), and a nearly debuting Robert De Niro, who literally unleashes all his immense talent, delivering an indescribable performance. Both actors are from L.Italy like the director; this masterpiece, after all, also speaks about them. more
tim burton -edward mani di forbice
Wonderful, the most beautiful film by Tim Burton, the great Johnny Depp. A melancholic fairy tale told by the Burton of golden times brings to life the partnership with Johnny Depp (perhaps here in his best performance) and leads to a truly splendid film. Bittersweet ending, but very beautiful. more
sam raimi -The Evil dead
A milestone in the history of horror, shot with a handful of dollars. Beautiful, fun, and unsettling all at once. more
Kraftwerk -Ralf And Florian
I may be the only one, but I prefer this to many of the ones that followed. more
George A. Romero -La notte dei morti viventi
A timeless classic of horror. By now, everything there is to say about Zombies has been said, to the point where I see them more as lovable goofballs, but this film, when viewed from a certain perspective, still sends shivers down your spine. A masterpiece in its genre. 8.5 more
George A. Romero -Zombi
Second highly successful chapter of Romero's zombie saga. Dawn of the Dead, although inferior to the first chapter, is a splendid film, with more action and splatter (but not excessive), a brilliant setting (the supermarket as a critique of consumer society), a general situation that is becoming increasingly dramatic and concerning (the Zombies are slowly taking over), and increasingly likable and goofy undead :D Great film.
