Georges Simenon
A typewriter and a personal vocabulary of 2000 words...yet I have felt the musty smell of certain rooms, the slight euphoria after a series of white powders, the stifling heat of the stove at Quai des Orfèvres, the compassion for human frailty...in short, an Immortal Genius. more

Rainbow -Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Debut album of the band of a Riccardo Nerodipiù, who has self-exiled from Deep Purple for the crime of lèse-majesté against others, and is ready to create a project all his own (yes, with Black Jack and a luxurious Ronnie James Dio) where he can fully express his idea of rock in an epic-fantasy style, emphasizing the most grandiloquent side of folklore and merging it with a genre, Hard Rock, that has never really been known for its sobriety, quite the contrary, in none of its aspects (from the living comics of Kiss to the expansive muscular power of the Purple themselves, or even folks like Uriah Heep, who have been "discreet" pioneers when it comes to refined Hard Rock that is simultaneously "epic" and majestic) and the result is an Hard Rock that aims for exaggeration and epicness in lyrics and melodies, with RJ's voice clean and wide, ringing without annoying high notes every three seconds, proving perfect for the operation. No one like Rainbow had pushed Hard Rock to such epic (and "clean" and "airy"... and even a bit kitschy, if you allow me) territories. I can't say that the result excites me incredibly (my favorite track is the one that strays the furthest from their style, and it's a cover too) but some songs ("Temple of the King" "Catch the Rainbow") are indeed beautiful and evocative as intended and the album is good. Better will be "Rising", the definitive manifesto of Nerodipiù's epic and pompous music. more
Oasis
I didn't experience their "golden period" (thankfully), and as a result, I feel indifferent towards them. Aside from one mediocre track, it doesn't seem to me that they've done anything to deserve the countless praises. There you go, I hate Wonderwall. I despise that shitty song on a visceral level. more
Big Big Train -Grand Tour
What can I say, guys? I admit my ignorance, but knowing legendary bands like Genesis or Yes, I listened with trepidation to this penultimate album by BBT. Grand Tour has dispelled all my hesitations, making me acknowledge that I am facing a true musical masterpiece. Listening to VOYAGER, the penultimate track of the album, made me jump in my seat as I attempted an impossible imitation of the truly devastating drummer. In a word, sublime—pair them with Pendragon, and I'm sure I haven’t said anything foolish. See you soon, friends. P.S. The only sour note is the recent passing of the singer David Longdon due to an accident. R.I.P. more
U2 -Zooropa
The other side of "Achtung Baby," which serves as its little brother. It doesn't have the stroke of genius, the revelation, and the immediacy of its predecessor, but to me, it's still a great album. Darker and more electronic, less accessible, but it boasts at least 4-5 really beautiful tracks: the title track, “Numb,” “Lemon,” “The Wanderer” (a stunning rendition by Johnny Cash), “The First Time,” but especially “Stay,” which for me is one of Bono and co.'s absolute best pieces, the soundtrack to “So Far, So Close” by Wim Wenders. more

Lucio Battisti -La Sposa Occidentale
Forget about "don't talk about love," here we definitely talk about it. And I think I've figured out why it's the least appreciated among the white albums: among all 5, this one draws much more from pop music, creating absolutely catchy songs like the title track, yet they remain difficult to understand. It's a bit like what Una donna per amico was for the period with Mogol, an album that tries to create a new kind of pop. The album itself is fantastic, the melodies that Battisti creates are stellar, and the lyrics manage to discuss love issues in a bizarre way (and in this, I ritorni is the most fitting example). 9/10, many should reevaluate it. more
