The separation from Pepper Keenan lasted two albums; at the end of 2014, the singer was reintegrated into Corrosion, who in the meantime had not been idle, having released a couple of albums characterized by a sound much more oriented towards their early Crossover Thrash-Hardcore roots from the eighties. In 2018, the band's tenth album was released: Pepper, Mike, Woody, and Reed together again. And unfortunately, it's the last work to feature the drumming prowess of Reed Mullin, who passed away in early 2020.
No Cross No Crown is yet another compact and massive album, very close in intensity to that undisputed masterpiece Deliverance, released way back in 1994.
Black Sabbath as the major reference; Sludge-Stoner of immense power. Distortion cranked up to the max to favor a guitar sound that is dark, pungent, and swampy. A boisterous voice that scratches like it did many years ago. There are brief instrumental tracks, four in total, to break up the relentless pace of the rest of the long work (we're approaching an hour).
This is the music the band plays; these are the songs that the group's fans appreciate.
Nothing new, but the class and the iron determination remain unchanged over time.
Long live the former boys from Raleigh, North Carolina; it's a shame I've NEVER been able to see them live.
Ad Maiora.
