Corrosion of Conformity

Musical Group

American heavy rock/metal group from Raleigh, North Carolina, formed in 1982; evolved from hardcore/crossover to a 1990s stoner/sludge sound and enduring presence.

Founded in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1982 by Mike Dean, Woody Weatherman and Reed Mullin. Reed Mullin (founding drummer) died in January 2020. Pepper Keenan became the prominent vocalist/guitarist during the Deliverance era; he has also been associated with the band Down. The 2012 self-titled album was recorded at Dave Grohl's 606 studios (as noted in reviews).

DeBaser reviews trace COC’s path from 1980s hardcore to a 1990s stoner/sludge peak (Blind, Deliverance, Wiseblood). Reviewers praise heavy, Sabbath-influenced riffing and Reed Mullin’s drumming. Recent albums are seen as consistent continuations rather than reinventions.

For:Fans of stoner metal, sludge, hardcore and Southern-influenced heavy rock

Like Black Sabbath sinking into the swamps of Louisiana; mud and distortion everywhere.
