Released in 2000, "Parachutes" is the first album by Coldplay, which allowed the English band to forcefully enter the charts worldwide.
The album offers good music throughout its duration, with a style often compared to that of the more famous Radiohead, so much so that Martin and company have been indicated as their heirs.
"Parachutes" begins with the beautiful "Don't panic," a track that gives a clear idea of how the rest of the CD will be and of the quality of singer-pianist Chris Martin's voice. Song number 2 is "Shiver," the ballad dedicated by Chris to the beautiful Natalie Imbruglia to try to win her over... who knows if his high notes were enough to reach the goal. The album continues with the slow "Spies" and the melodic and sad "Sparks." But both are introductory tracks to the true masterpiece of this album: "Yellow," a beautiful song from the rhythm of the drums to the guitar, passing through the voice (one of the best around) of the singer and undisputed leader of the band, Chris Martin. In short, a complete and captivating song, a showpiece that at every concert manages to thrill all fans. After "Yellow" awaits us the other masterpiece of the CD, namely "Truble," a track that highlights Martin's great ability to play the piano.
The album listening continues with the song that gives its name to the whole compilation "Parachutes," a very brief and somewhat avoidable track, and the ballad with a slow rhythm despite the title "High Speed." We are at the end of the listening, where we are greeted by the very sad yet equally beautiful "We never change" which reminds us that despite everything, we never change, and the final track, the very peculiar "Everything's no lost" a fitting finale for a great work.
Finally, we can say that despite showing some influence from Radiohead, this CD is certainly one of the best albums that England has produced since the time of "(What's the Story) Morning Glory" by Oasis, and in all its songs maintains a very, very high musical level.
Ten poems (+ hidden track) each more beautiful than the last that present us with a new benchmark group on the world music scene.
I recommend listening to the CD before going to sleep; it resonates best during those moments.
The cold is the element most felt when listening to this CD: the emotion, the chills that make your skin crawl.
"Yellow"...a song to take, keep hidden to discover it in the moonlight while making a love declaration.
Despite everything, it is a beautiful album.
Coldplay adopt the compositional formula of early Radiohead... but produce an album that is enjoyable and very listenable.
'Yellow' is definitely the best track on the album and was rightly chosen as the second single.
'Everything's Not Lost' is simply a gem to treasure: a worthy conclusion to this album.
Coldplay will release other albums and other videos, the latter thankfully less obscene, with time they will become something else.
It’s beautiful, an intimate and calm jewel, like only the nineties could give us.
