Despite everything, it is a beautiful album.
Despite everything because, let's be clear, this album has many aspects that make you raise an eyebrow.
I approached listening to this album, I must admit, with a lot of skepticism typical, as far as I'm concerned, of all those albums that achieve great media, critical, and public success, and itâs a skepticism thatâs often hard to set aside.
For this album, it wasnât like that.
âParachutesâ begins with âDonât Panicâ, and it's not hard to understand that the best of Coldplay is entrusted to Chris Martin's beautiful voice. This is the first âgemâ of the album.
As you continue, you notice the delicate compromise that runs through this album: on one side, there is an evident artisanal spirit, music without too many frills, but it's also clear that Coldplay are excessively influenced by Radiohead. Some songs seem to have come straight out of The Bends, and even the voice doesnât stray too far from the early Thom Yorke standards.
Continuing to listen, you discover at least three other beautiful songs: âYellowâ sweet and with a very romantic lyric, âTroubleâ melancholic played on the piano, not to mention the wonderful âSpiesâ.
Summing it up, it is an album that deserved the success it achieved, especially considering it's a debut album. Coldplay adopt the compositional formula of early Radiohead (like many other bands), and while not managing to hide this strong influence, they produce an album that, unlike what many other bands have done in recent years, is enjoyable and very listenable.
Absolutely nothing new nor complicated but, despite everything, it is a beautiful album. Despite everything.
Ten poems (+ hidden track) each more beautiful than the last that present us with a new benchmark group on the world music scene.
I recommend listening to the CD before going to sleep; it resonates best during those moments.
The cold is the element most felt when listening to this CD: the emotion, the chills that make your skin crawl.
"Yellow"...a song to take, keep hidden to discover it in the moonlight while making a love declaration.
"Yellow," a beautiful song ... a showpiece that at every concert manages to thrill all fans.
Despite showing some influence from Radiohead, this CD is certainly one of the best albums that England has produced since the time of (What's the Story) Morning Glory by Oasis.
'Yellow' is definitely the best track on the album and was rightly chosen as the second single.
'Everything's Not Lost' is simply a gem to treasure: a worthy conclusion to this album.
Coldplay will release other albums and other videos, the latter thankfully less obscene, with time they will become something else.
Itâs beautiful, an intimate and calm jewel, like only the nineties could give us.
