Charlie Haden (1937–2014) was an American jazz double bassist renowned for his warm, lyrical tone and deep musical empathy. He emerged with Ornette Coleman’s pioneering groups, founded the Liberation Music Orchestra with Carla Bley, led Quartet West, and crafted beloved collaborations with Pat Metheny, Kenny Barron, Egberto Gismonti, and others.
