Rating: Guided by Corrado Rustici (who would later play with Zucchero), brother of Danilo from Osanna, another legendary Italian progressive band, Cervello released their only work 'Melos' in 1973.
The album consists of 7 tracks with lyrics inspired by Greek mythology, musically featuring elements of classical and jazz music with guitar and flute prominently and with very Mediterranean sounds. Musically it is not inaccessible, obviously if you are used to catchy songs with clean sound that are played on the radio and you are not progressive (musically speaking...), on a first listen, perhaps even on the second and third, it might make you turn up your nose, although in some songs it is quite melodic.
Musically excellent as most of the progressive works of the time, nowadays bands like this are hard to find in Italy, the voice is perhaps the weak point but it is still essential to the album, although here we are not at San Remo. Curious is the cover of the vinyl record featuring a can of peeled tomatoes with an openable lid.

'Melos' is a magnificent album, unique in an Italian panorama where it deserves to carve out a place of unmatched splendor.
