It was 1968 when Captain Beefheart gave birth to 'Strictly Personal'. The only flaw of this record is that it finds itself between the two cornerstones of the great Captain Beefheart, namely the first album 'Safe As Milk' and the famous 'Trout Mark Replica'.
Precisely in the years when his friend and colleague Frank Zappa amazed everyone with experimentation taken to the extreme and albums on the edge of the peculiar, Don Van Vliet gives us a record full of psychedelia through tracks like 'I Feel Like An Achid', a true gem. The long and psychedelic 'Trust Us', with an almost manic text. Also worth mentioning is the track that takes the title of the previous album, 'Safe As a Milk'.
Lots of parody in this record. Also worth mentioning is 'Beatle Bones 'n' Smokin' Stones', in which there is a strong mockery of the contemporary music of that time, especially the Beatles. In fact, you can listen between the lines to the verses of the great success of the Fab Four, 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.
What would happen shortly after went down in history. 'Trout Mask Replica' became one of the most discussed albums in history, but that doesn't mean we can't make a stop at less 'renowned' albums of our Captain. I know similar records would deserve much other reviews...But seeing it missing in the archives hurt my corazon. Greetings.

02 Safe as Milk (05:27)
Well my cigarette died when I washed my face
Dropped some drops in an ashtray hit a wrong place
Woman at my blinds to see spiders spinning lines
Its a safe as milk it's a safe as milk
I never heard it put quite that way
The shape I'm in is a gone a way
They called a day they called a day
Yesterday's paper headlines approach rain gutter teasing rusty cat sneezing
Soppin wet hammer dusty and wheezing
Lusty alley whining trashcan blues
Children running after rainbows stocking poor
Gracious ladies nylon hanging on to line
Jumping onto leg looking mighty fine
Sorrows lollipop lands stick-broken on a dark carnival ground
Pop up toaster cracklin
Aluminium rhythm and sound
Ev'ry day pencil lazy and sharp
The icebox inside looking like a harp
E-lectric bulb been out for years
Freezer fumes feed the gas tears
Cheese in the corner with a mile long beard
Bacon blue bread dog eared (repeat twice)
I may be hungry but I sure ain't weird
05 On Tomorrow (03:26)
We're all brothers of tomorrow
(we won't have to talk) we won't need to talk
We won't need to walk on tomorrow
Rush comes the love shapes to share shapes
Love love love on tomorrow
baby spring son yellow wings red skies showing on
Lively ivy growing on tomorrow
Wish your way around hair stingin' to the ground
Silver streams all our dreams
cleansed free of sorrow
Love love love love love love
Lush skies above shapes to share shapes
Peace escapes to play away today tomorrow
Mothers graze on grasslands
Grazin' woman stands on today's shiftin sands
grazin woman stands and baby springs on golden wings
flies free of sorrow (flies free of sorrow)
on tomorrow
woman grazin on grasslands.....on which it stands
we're all brothers on tomorrow yeah we're...
