The self-proclaimed experts/reviewers who have piles of CDs and remember outdated records with unspeakable names that are obligatorily elite, and of course, can't play a solo but dare to grade guitarists thousands of kilometers away, are having fun ridiculing Black Tide online with the usual arguments. Lack of innovation and already heard it all before. "The riff of song 2 blatantly recalls that of band X in the album Y of the year 1978." I can already see them, pale from the little light taken in the dusty room where they live with their relics, searching and digging among the CDs to confirm the plagiarism that their keen ear discovered. Well done, I commend you. But have you ever thought that in an empty football field, when, for example, the new wave of British heavy metal was in its infancy, there were untouched hectares of riffs to compose? In that situation, it's easier to be original, don't you think? The ground cost less. Now that the football field is full of bands devoted to the same genre, it's a bit more challenging to avoid similarities; the buildings touch each other, and the roads (the artistic vein), although they may have three-quarter lanes, tend to be clogged even in mid-August. And note that this does not only apply to newcomers who, according to you, lack the class of masters, but also to the past glories you idolize, who, coincidentally, serve us reheated dishes of yore. So I say better a bit of raw and derivative youth that can improve and grow. But to hell with you, reviewers, who feel cool with a magnifying glass trying to spot the resemblance. At 14, you barely knew who Queen was.

This group, Black Tide, is composed of pimply American kids who can't vote, drive a car, or theoretically drink alcohol, and you're putting on your glasses to spot similarities while accentuating defects?? The singer's voice doesn't sound raw, idiots, it is!!! It's called adolescence. They're not original and maybe never will be, but damn, let them at least reach 20 before you demand they innovate a genre that's been dead for at least ten years.

When I was around 14-15, I spent a lot of time masturbating (a bit less now J), I admit it, vegetating in front of the TV or messing around playing, and getting turned down a lot. I was as mature as cherries now, so excuse me if I have real admiration for this emerging group dedicated to a nice engaging and muscular hard rock/metal that writes its own songs and plays them with commendable fury and technique.

This is a CD that, despite its flaws (find them for yourself), energizes and flows very well in the player and tempts you to turn up the volume. You must be some envious frustrated idiots to speak ill of such a genuine and hopeful formation for the future while getting excited about the new releases of corpses like Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest, just to name three. Put "Light From Above" in your car without expectations and prejudices, and you'll realize that in the end, if a sea of long-decomposed formations find space in the recording world, perhaps there's a small space even for those who, at least age-wise, have a future ahead.

01   Shockwave (03:28)

I'm like a shockwave coming through your door
I'm like a bullet at the speed of light
I go around taking peoples lives
While you sit around saying lies

When I'm around you'll feel the pain
And when I'm done you will be no more
Your life is through now mine begins
My days of agony are now gone

I'm a shockwave and I don't need anyone
I'll follow my ways 'til the day I die
I'm a shockwave and I'll take your fuckin' life
Don't mess with me I'm a shockwave ready to kill

I am the one who feeds off your life
I'll be right there when you're ready to die
I am a killer but they're all scared
When I rise no time is spared

I'm a shockwave and I don't need anyone
I'll follow my ways 'til the day I die
I'm a shockwave and I'll take your fuckin' life
Don't mess with me I'm a shockwave ready to kill

I'm a shockwave and I don't need anyone
I'll follow my ways 'til the day I die
I'm a shockwave and I'll take your fuckin life
Don't mess with me I'm a shockwave ready to kill

I'm a shockwave and I don't need anyone
I'll follow my ways 'til the day I die
I'm a shockwave and I'll take your fuckin life
Don't mess with me I'm a shockwave ready to kill

The thought that four underage boys were able to come out with such a work leaves no room for other conclusions.

Their style is still to be appreciated, as they have the merit of making us tap our foot to the ground.
