The Air represent one of the highest peaks achieved in the field of electronics in terms of quality and sound; you couldn't talk about this musical genre without mentioning these two geniuses. Many times, electronic music is thought of as a cold and soulless genre, used only to fill dance floors and produce deafening and annoying distorted sounds for those who are not used to it. For many, true music is only that played with classical instruments, but that's not true at all. Even electronic music can have a soul and can warm your heart. Moby was a commercial example with the album "PLAY," which gave electronic music a blues soul. Even Lemon Jelly (just to name a few) managed to transform samples into true songs rich in spirit and feeling in that masterpiece that was "Lost Horizons." But if we want to talk about that type of modern electronic music that cleverly fuses artificial sound with instrumental, creating something extremely engaging, artistic, genius, and full of soul... we must mention Air, the refined electro/pop musicians, who in terms of sound and type of music, have little to envy to sacred music monsters like Pink Floyd (among their inspirers) or the psychedelic musicians of the '70s.
"Moon Safari" is a masterpiece! 10 perfect tracks, 10 musical jewels selected in a single album, a moving return to the '70s sound combined with very refined modern electronic sounds, enchanting and velvety rhythms, stunning melodies, classy music. An album capable of making you daydream, a punch in the face to those who say pop music is trivial, it's impossible not to be emotionally swept away by sublime tracks like "All I Need" or the spectacular and psychedelic opening track "La Femme D'argent". It's not just about listening to style exercises on the sampler; this is real music, even if manipulated with electronic equipment. There's more soul in a song like "Remember" (vocoder and samplers) than in many entirely played songs. The vocoder, in this case, seems alive, it's sexy, it blends perfectly with the instrumental part, without giving that impression of cold and artificial manipulation at all. Here, it's all about skill! This is music with a capital "M".
The album offers a mix of soft and seductive sounds, enchanting melodies reminiscent of Ennio Morricone, fragments of soundtracks, and a lounge style that reminds us a lot of the latest works of the Beatles and early Pink Floyd (in terms of psychedelia). Tracks suitable for home listening while lying on a chair or on an MP3 player while traveling by train...
To grasp all the finesse and uniqueness behind the orchestration of these tracks, a high level of concentration is required, every sound is perfect! Heartfelt songs like "Talisman" and "You Make it Easy" are irrefutable proof of the extreme skill of these two artists, capable of producing songs that I would call "mental trips for ancestral journeys".
11 tracks for daydreaming, moving from the light and carefree "Kelly Watch The Stars" which reminds us a bit of Moby's vocalizations and synth games (though in this case there's definitely more class), to the poignant and melancholic "New Star In The Sky" which I would define as a work of art, and what about the use of horns present in the beautiful and fascinating "Ce matin là"? In this case, the concept of cold and soulless electronic music goes out the window! These tracks are vital nourishment for our spirit! Take that, those who underestimate this musical genre. This album is like a drug! It creates addiction, you listen to it when you're happy and when you're sad, a beautiful album that absolutely shouldn't be missing from the collection of those who love poignant psychedelic music.
To be studied in music schools.
This record will remain a testament to the decade it belongs to.
A 'contemporary' album that will presumably accompany me until retirement.
Listening to Moon Safari by Air is like looking at the world through a glass of champagne.
Air opens the doors to a new way of making electronic music, becoming masters and inspirations to a generation of musicians.
