Dreams in the drawer: a dream stocking?

Since you took the trouble to read my de_profile all the way here I’m also posting a poem that very well defines my way of seeing things.

I consider every form of life valuable,

snow, the strawberry, the fly.

I consider valuable the mineral kingdom, the assembly of stars.

I consider valuable the wine as long as the meal lasts,

an involuntary smile, the fatigue of one who did not spare themselves,

two old people in love.

I consider valuable what tomorrow will no longer be worth,

and what today still barely counts.

I consider all wounds valuable.

I consider it valuable to save water,

to repair a pair of shoes,

to be silent in time,

to rush to a cry,

to ask permission before sitting down,

to feel gratitude without remembering why.

I consider it valuable to know where north is in a room,

the name of the wind drying the laundry.

I consider the wanderer's journey valuable,

the nun’s cloister,

the patience of the condemned, whatever the guilt.

I consider the use of the verb to love valuable

and the hypothesis that a creator exists.

Many of these values I have not known.

Erri de Luca, Opera sull’acqua e altre poesie, Einaudi (2002)

My luck, however, is to know almost all the values listed above, except wine (I tend to be teetotal). I also consider good writing valuable: on this subject, I point out that “qual è” - in the poem text - would be written without an apostrophe.

=====================

(*) Single but in a relationship implies an adversative, or disjunctive if you will: it means not married but not alone, nor, much less, available for parallel or semi-clandestine relationships. It is different from single and in a relationship understood conjunctively, and so fashionable nowadays and among certain individuals, if you’ll pardon the joke! In other words: I did not sign up here to hook up with anyone. You are therefore requested not to contact me via pvt for personal reasons or with childish excuses but with all too obvious purposes, because you will not receive a reply (and who has ears to hear, let them hear).

Greet with joy!
