It's singular that the argument with a sacred monster of the Italian music scene opened the doors of worldwide recognition to Zucchero.

The story of Rispetto is a story of guts and personality, of arrogance and determination. The story of a newly born artist who decides to take the risks of his choices.

In the mid-eighties, Zucchero was not yet - obviously - the artist we know today. He had participated in Sanremo with the song Donne and had two albums to his credit, which, truthfully, had conquered the radio. The problem was the record label.

The lack of success concerning the boring Sanremo charts was not well regarded. A collaboration with Mogol was decided upon (who had helped revive the careers of established artists like Cocciante).

The little humility of these is such that in Arezzo he states: "You come to the doctor when you're already on your deathbed, we'll see what can be done." The context brings Zucchero down.

For black and anachronistic compositions like those of the famous Randy Jackson Band (a strong point in the songwriter's career), Mogol's lyrics fit like a penguin in the savannah. Zucchero cannot help but voice his opinion, and after all, it is his sweat and his name. A sleepless night and he confronts the famous lyricist, putting his doubts on the table. After the ensuing outburst in a fury, Zucchero packs his bags and finally tells him to go to hell.

The lyrics are now written by him, and the bad experience becomes precisely Rispetto, a song that will effectively start the most important phase in Zucchero's history. The illustrious duets (like the one with Joe Cocker for whom he wrote Nuovo Meraviglioso Amico) are also important.

The production is by Corrado Rustici and Michele Torpedine; a duo with whom the most important works are born.

For the second time, the then little Irene Fornaciari is immortalized on the album cover; a sign of the individualistic intentions and the harmony with himself rediscovered by the bluesman?

Despite the rise, Zucchero has never overshadowed Adelmo; if anything, the roots from the Emilian countryside have always been there, on that face and in those ways of doing and understanding his proposal.

The anecdotes mentioned belong to the official biography of Zucchero and the official statements from producers and industry insiders that are easily accessible on the web.

01   Introduction (00:32)

02   Rispetto (05:04)

Non c'è più rispetto
Neanche tra di noi
Il silenzio è rotto
Dagli spari tuoi
Dimmi
Quanti soldi vuoi
Quanti soldi vuoi
Quanti soldi vuoi
Per lasciarmi stare

Quanti soldi vuoi
Quanti soldi vuoi
Quanti soldi vuoi

Che mi hai fatto male!

Non c'è più rispetto
Uoh uoh uoh uoh uoh

Non c'è più contatto

Oh oh oh oh
Prima ero li
Stavo bene
Con gli amici al bar
Ci credi, ero li
Senza pene
Chiaro come il mar...

Dimmi
Quanti soldi vuoi
Quanti soldi vuoi
Quanti soldi vuoi
Per lasciarmi andare

Quanti soldi vuoi
Quanti soldi vuoi
Quanti soldi vuoi

Non ti ho fatto male mai!
Oh, ma che dolore
Oh, è un gran dolore!

Non c'è più rispetto
Neanche tra di noi

Non c'è più rispetto
Oh oh oh oh oh
E allora

Tira tira tira
che si spezza dai

Tira tira tira

Io non ti ho fatto male mai!
Oh, ma che dolore
Oh, è un gran dolore!
