THE REVIEW

"And here we are

 trying to spend another evening

hoping it will be different,

maybe less...

we find ourselves here

the air is fresh

we're all on the sofa

passing around another good joint

that makes me freeze for a moment, what's inside?

There's nothing that relaxes me like now."

It sounds like a typical summer evening, when you spend time with friends, joints... for those who have them, when you hope to spend a different evening. First track of the album "Scendi" by Zero Assoluto. I consider it their least sugary album so far. Their style, concerning the sound and the parts the two singers share, makes them immediately recognizable, but this album might be a bit different from the following ones. It's not just about love topics: evenings with friends, 40 sqm of a room, minimalisms .... and then "it's strange to wake up on an ordinary day different. To find myself after a long time a little more to the right and the need for a dream. It's strange to wake up on an ordinary day different. To leave for another place if I want to, waiting for my dream." And they also ask "How are you": "but if one day you found the words maybe that day I'll understand your fears, but now I can't help leaving you, maybe I'm throwing everything away, not without regrets".

Without regrets... you can see a bit of sadness, until you reach the song "Half an Hour" where half an hour could be enough to eternalize a moment, a moment that slips away because in the end, when evening comes, everything ends and then everything will return as it was.

After that, we get to the track that gives the album its title "Scendi". So ... it's absolutely not a song I consider, I didn't understand the lyrics, and the sound didn't strike me, moreover, it didn't seem original at all. I'll take the first sentence of this song for those who've never spent two seconds listening to it (get a laugh) "today I woke up happy and the flowers on the balcony talk to me, but how did I not see them before, not hear them talk to the pots." The meaning of this phrase? I wouldn't know ... either I'm still under the effect of the joint mentioned in the first song, or it just works like that and who knows what the meaning is ... if there is one ... even one of the singers, after the verse, starts laughing and his laughter is clearly audible. The rest of the lyrics, although before I said this album was the least sugary, is a series of little phrases, like "lost, lost in a thought for you", or even, "descend, and in an instant I find love, descend, you make me fly and take me far away", besides being sugary, it doesn't even seem like two men wrote such lyrics, but instead, I would think the authors could be Paola and Chiara ... but let's move on! Another track that in my opinion is worth listening to is  "Delirium".

This is a song about an ordinary day, of a common man overwhelmed by commitments, respecting schedules, traffic, the frenzy of life. And even if there are two other tracks, "4 things" and "Week of Memories", to talk about, you must already be bored of this review, and frankly, it bores me too, so, I'll conclude with some excerpts from the song "Delirium", because even though it's Zero Assoluto singing it, with due prejudices, it still has lyrics that need to be listened to, simple, funny and true!

"Awake on your feet, how do you do it? Every morning staying in full tranquility. To work, tell me how to feel good now if it annoys me from eight thirty.

Get up early go away because you don’t have time to eat a sandwich, a cappuccino. And there's no place to smoke a moment peacefully. If I could read the sports newspaper. It annoys me

Stopped in traffic. And I'm on a scooter, diverging accelerating trying to escape. You do what you can at best open agenda for the next appointment, yet it's already clear I'll be late. The phone rings and now I don’t answer, it seems like the world wants to stop me now but I have no time indeed, it annoys me"

The ability to speak about everyday emotions with a simplicity that involves everyone, yet without ever being banal and superficial.

A breath of fresh air from the usual Italian pop song.
