Second effort for Zeraphine: Traumaworld. From the title alone, you can understand what they intend to communicate, an "obscure" or rather dark or gothic album, but melodies are not lacking. The gothic genre for this German band is more intense compared to the usual groups you hear mentioned around. It's a more gothic rock/metal leaning towards darkwave, if it could be better defined, even though more melodic and atmospheric.
From the first track, some electronic influences and synth are present here and there in the songs. Furthermore, there is the cover "In Your Room" by Depeche Mode, a band that has a significant influence on the group's genre, which, as they say around, for other groups are already depechemodeized; you can immediately see it from the vocal tone and the style adopted in most of the tracks.
It's also true that perhaps certain tracks are somewhat similar and monotonous, like "Light Your Stars" and "No More Doubts". There are also tracks entirely in German such as "Schreit Dein Herz", and the last track "Wenn Du Gehst".
The group is very reminiscent of the sounds of the previous band founded by the singer, now defunct, the Dreadful Shadows (active from 1993 to 2000), another gothic rock - darkwave group, although much less melodic, and with fewer influences from Depeche Mode.
All in all, it remains a good album to listen to. Recommended for lovers of gothic, darkwave, synthpop and derivatives.
The album slides over the skin without leaving a mark on the folds of the heart.
Adequate, but there’s much better out there.
