Take a handful of friends raised in the grey monotony of the Pavia province and unite them in a musical project capable of reflecting each of their tastes; these are Within Your Pain. A band that has grown album after album, starting with a debut that was all too standard and exploding in all its essence with “Ten Steps Behind”, the classic work that catapults you into never fully explored shores and highlights the stylistic development of the project.

Always careful not to draw too much attention, over the years the quintet has had various satisfactions, such as performing abroad and opening live shows for international acts like Heaven Shall Burn, Neaera, Unearth, and BoySetsFire. Today comes the time for goodbyes, motivated by the various personal commitments of the members, with a testimony to leave to posterity titled “Little Stars And The Perfect Yellow Keys,” a six-track EP available as a free digital download.

The stylistic journey largely mirrors its predecessor (“Ten Steps Behind” indeed), that is to say, a heavy-oriented sonic wall strengthened by what Within Your Pain knows best: metalcore and hardcore first and foremost. Within the tracks, the usual irony that has always distinguished them, with titles like “This Song Smell Like Asphalt In The Rain", “Do It! If You Can! Ok You Can't!” and “We Are Not So Proud Of This Song But Our Label Asked Us A Cool Song Like An Emmure Song”, a parody of a typical Emmure song redone by Within Your Pain. Though they have never particularly excelled in instrumental technique, the group has improved over the years (a bit like fine wine, essentially), arriving today at the classic closing of the circle: that is a very enjoyable and easily exportable product. Tracks with powerful riffs merge with an increasingly intense rhythm section (careful not to overdo it with breakdowns) and increasingly claustrophobic and sludge-oriented vocals. If you love bands like As I Lay Dying, Unearth, and Most Precious Blood, this band from Vigevano might be a delightful discovery, and for those who already know them, well, here we have another fine example of quality and consistency in metal sauce.
