“Now when I look towards the Ocean, I no longer expect the landing of nuclear submarines or alien attacks, I see China beyond the Ocean now, and I hope the Chinese see us...” with these enigmatic words spoken by the protagonist, this beautiful thriller directed by Wim Wenders comes to an end. It is not a spoiler because throughout the film you see neither submarines, nor aliens, nor a single frame concerning China, mah...

At the beginning of the film, the protagonist's wife, feeling neglected, confides to him that she is thirsty for life and wants to leave him to go to Nicaragua, but it will be her husband (a film producer), through a series of unexpected circumstances, who will drink from the fountain of real life, mah...

In the middle, there is a secret FBI project to reduce violence and murders in society, but wouldn't you know, it's the efbiai that commits murders, mah...

The destinies of actors, musicians, cops, and gardeners intersect to weave a plot with a good level of suspense, and what else can be said except that I wanted to read the review of “White Dog” directed by Samuel Fuller, but while browsing, I stumbled upon this film by WW where, coincidentally, Fuller (one of Wenders' favorite directors) has a small part, mah...

The film is quite engaging, though slightly alienating (a hallmark always recognizable in the works of WW) and despite a quarter of a century having passed, it has not lost its luster, even if technology has made significant strides forward compared to what is seen, thanks also to a good soundtrack, as the director has always accustomed us, featuring among others Michael Stipe, Vic Chesnutt, Eels, Los Lobos, Tom Waits, Roy Orbison, Ry Cooder, U2, Sinéad O'Connor, Jon Hassell, okay, now I'm finally going to read “White Dog”, mah...

P.S. Three curiosities:

• There are shots that scenically pay homage to the talented painter Edward Hopper

• A critic from “Time Out New York” compares this road movie to the vision of a certain America shown by Robert Altman in his “Short Cuts”

• The film was a flop in the States, with a budget of 5 million dollars, it grossed less than 10%, mah...
