We are faced with another unfortunate case of a talent that, in order to emerge, is forced to go beyond the Italian borders. Born in 2000, V.V. produced 2 promotional EPs (Dominique Paints Only In China, Funeral For a Cloud) through which they received numerous accolades during performances at major London venues. After seven years of experience, their work is finally finalized with the release of their first official album, The Art Of Arranging Flowers.
The album exhibits a linear and engaging structure, with a distinctive groove that manages to embed elements of new wave, punk, alternative, and dark as if they were fragments of a mosaic. The track list flows with extreme simplicity and finds the right balance between captivating tracks (Angel Grave, Virgin, Elise and the bad moon) and more reflective ones (Verlaine, The Art Of Arranging Flowers), succeeding in destabilizing the listener's impressions, who is drawn into a vortex of anxieties and caresses. The sound captures the attention thanks to a clear voice, slightly nasal but characteristic, accompanied by a constant guitar arpeggio that leads to repetitive frames, sometimes minimalist, and purely punk distorted rhythms. The rhythm section offers us a well-crafted and effective drumming that creates exquisite inlays with a present and geometric bass. Overall, it is a work akin to artisanal craftsmanship capable of transporting us to dark yet serene settings, portraying a deserted and silent country often struck by storms of lightning and well-articulated vibrations. Those who choose to visit this place will know the language of flowers.
