There is the sporadic specter of the song 'Bardamù' in Vinicio Capossela's new album 'Da Solo', like 'Vetri appannati d'America'. Granted, I love his entire discography, but here, from that song, a beautiful waltz from 'Canzoni a Manovella', the harmony is really missing. Very pianistic and intimate, whispered, even too much so. The songs lack that precise, sharp melody that in past works managed to penetrate your brain and heart, same for the lyrics. After the huge success of 'Ovunque Proteggi', the expectations were high... and here, I say it with regret, they have been disappointed. 'Parla piano' takes us back in time, when our dear Vinicio was dedicated to echoing Conte, Paoli and illustrious masters of humid cellars, then that Sanremo-like refrain could really have been left inside. Same for laments like 'Orfani Ora'. Here and there appear American-tinged references to Tom Waits, but we are far from the festive wonders created in 'Dove siamo rimasti a terra Nutless'. I don't know, I don't understand... This is a mediocre disc, unworthy of the Capossela name, it cannot be placed among the likes of 'Ballo di S. Vito' or the already mentioned 'Canzoni a Manovella' and 'Ovunque Proteggi', 'Modì', it lacks inspiration, artistic freedom... The guitars of Ribot and Alessandro Stefana. The chant reminiscent of Ferri's 'Il Paradiso dei Calzini' is not enough to satisfy fans well accustomed to musical masterpieces like those made before. Then I remember an interview of his from some time ago. He said: 'I have three/four albums ready, but my record label insists on releasing a The Best', that was 'L'Indispensabile'. I deduce that Vinicio has quite a lot of musical tracks tucked away, and now he starts to slowly pull them out and assemble albums like this 'Da Solo'. In short, we would have preferred he pulled the socks out of that drawer and left these weak little songs behind. In closing, in the track 'Non c'è disaccordo nel cielo', there is even a confused reverse ghost track... Well, there may be no discord in the sky, but among the more discerning fans and Mr. Capossela the sky is starting to be cloudy. Needless to say, most, given the rise of the Capossela name in recent years, will be upset by this review, but this is precisely the point, the rivers of praise flowing toward a name, and not the work, are decidedly hypocritical.

It’s an album with calm and dreamy atmospheres, which takes us back to the times of Canzoni a manovella.
After all, it’s very difficult to review a Vinicio’s album.

It’s such a wonderfully winter album, to be listened to by a lit fireplace, curled up on the couch peeling chestnuts with a glass of wine at hand.
And in the end that’s how it is, when you search through memories after mixing them with time, tears dry up and everything simplifies, falling asleep peacefully in memory...

It’s like a winter blanket with chestnuts and wine!
Capossela’s narrativity is always his own, sharp and exceptional…

"He is a luxury craftsman, very talented, a splendid manipulator of words, with a sense of both the ditty and the ballad."
"Here, our man takes his dog for a spin around the barnyard, as good as always, as capable as ever, as recognizable as ever, but without stirring anything particular."
