Alone. The eighth studio album by Vinicio Capossela. It absolutely did not disappoint expectations: a truly very interesting album. Unlike the previous "Ovunque Proteggi", this one emphasizes the use of the piano (which is practically in every track), and it's an easier album to listen to, even though the previous album remains an excellent record.

But let's get back to this one: an album with calm and dreamy atmospheres, which takes us back to the times of Canzoni a manovella, that album that was so praised by critics of which I only save half.

This album opens with the introduction Il gigante e il mago, almost seven minutes long, a song that at first listen may seem dull and trivial, but on a second, a third, even a fourth listen, it's a beautiful song, with a very strange structure, however.

The most beautiful songs are: In clandestinità, introduced by the piano and some brass in the background, with a little tune similar to that of the previous track; Orfani ora, the pinnacle of the entire album, with a very beautiful and poetic text, from which I quote a part: "Ti prego chiamami tesoro adesso / mentre piove e l'aria è fredda / e sono giorni che cammino senza meta / portandoti nel cuore", Una giornata perfetta, with an almost jazz rhythm and many unusual instruments in the background, including glasses, the theremin, the saw, and the reverberation of the strings. L'altra faccia della terra, which even approaches reggae, and with the brass forming a great chorus.

Also to highlight Non c'é disaccordo nel cielo, the closing track of the album, just voice and piano with some hints of brass, and the ghost track of the album: Da solo tutt' quant', the strangest thing in this album: namely the superimposition of all the tracks together in one single track (!!!).

In conclusion, this album is absolutely a must-listen, because my review is only a small hint: after all, it's very difficult to review a Vinicio's album.

Rating for this album: 4/5 (8/10)

It’s such a wonderfully winter album, to be listened to by a lit fireplace, curled up on the couch peeling chestnuts with a glass of wine at hand.

And in the end that’s how it is, when you search through memories after mixing them with time, tears dry up and everything simplifies, falling asleep peacefully in memory...

'This is a mediocre disc, unworthy of the Capossela name.'

'The songs lack that precise, sharp melody that in past works managed to penetrate your brain and heart.'

It’s like a winter blanket with chestnuts and wine!

Capossela’s narrativity is always his own, sharp and exceptional…

"He is a luxury craftsman, very talented, a splendid manipulator of words, with a sense of both the ditty and the ballad."

"Here, our man takes his dog for a spin around the barnyard, as good as always, as capable as ever, as recognizable as ever, but without stirring anything particular."
