THE REVIEW

...and after a 3-year wait, our Superheroes are back with a new work worthy of the good debut called "Contraband"!!! The band of Slash, Duff, Matt, Scott, and Dave amazes with this album for its remarkable diversity compared to the debut. From the very first listen, "Libertad" shows this significant difference from "Contraband". The latter was an album that greatly benefited from Duff's Punk and Dave's grunge-punk (who was the guitarist of Duff's band: Loaded), in a certain sense limiting the abilities of Slash, Scott, and Matt.

"Libertad", on the other hand, is an album that highlights these latter members more. Scott's voice seems to have remarkably improved, the lead guitar of the LEGENDARY SLASH delivers the emotions as always, and this is made possible also by Dave's excellent rhythm guitar, which gives a remarkable imprint to the songs, not to mention the legendary rhythm section of our Duff and Matt, who already in the past alongside Slash marked the Guns N' Roses sound with incredible beauty and pure poetry!!!

"Libertad" opens with an overwhelming "Let It Roll" full of energy, and here we already notice Scott's improvement and Slash's notable leading role, offering us a powerful solo. We move through "She Mine", pure old Velvet Revolver style (with very clear references to Scott's STP). "Get Out The Door" is a more punkish track than the others. Then we arrive at the chosen single "She Builds Quick Machines" which shows the same overwhelming energy as "Let It Roll", but it's much more elaborated and refined by the band (very appealing!). And here is the masterpiece song of the album for all of you!!! "The Last Fight" is a semi-ballad, a track where we see a Scott with an incredibly sensual and sweet voice, with clear references to Britpop-rock.

"Pils, Demons & Etc" is a track where Slash is the absolute dominator from start to finish. And here is a track where Duff dominates greatly with his legendary very melodic bass: "American Man". Matt starts "Mary Mary" with his drums, one of the most overwhelming songs of the album, featuring a "distorted" Scott and closed with a great Slash solo accompanying the chorus!!! Legendary!!! 16 Sixteen... what can I say!?!?!? A legendary Slash!!! Beautiful chorus!!! Besides "Psycho Killer" from their EP, they present us with another cover called "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", with a very refined Scott in his voice. "For A Brother" is a track that, although very lively and nice, requires more listening to convince the listener. "Spray", in my opinion, is the worst song of the album. And here is the song destined to be the "Fall To Pieces" with an intro similar to "Loving The Alien" of "Libertad"; the beautiful "Gravedancer" made unique by Scott's voice and a fantastic melody.

In my opinion, it is an album worth purchasing. Well done, Velvet Revolver!!!!

"Libertad reveals itself as an uneven, asymmetric record, with some interesting elements where the band sounds confident and cohesive."

"Slash seems forcibly included: the solos are there, but they are not the lyrical and melodic ones to which we were accustomed."
