THE REVIEW

The closing of the circle. We can imagine this album as the perfect closing of the circle by Italy's most famous Vasco.

Twenty years after starting by picking up an acoustic guitar, Mr. Rossi picks it up again and gifts us with a short, simple, and singer-songwriter album. These songs were not born to be performed live, as the "singer-songwriter" from Zocca himself stated, and indeed that summer of '98 there was only one of his concerts. So, it starts with "E Il Mattino" and right away, you notice the difference between previous albums and this one: acoustic guitar and a very soft atmosphere for this simple song, which immediately introduces us to the world of this album. It follows with "L'una Per Te," a rather ironic song where this time the guitar is well-complemented by a section of violins, a bit acoustic, a bit rock, but certainly impactful; after this intense song comes "Io No," the first single and perhaps the most famous track from the CD; here we have a strong presence of electric guitars and Vasco's hoarse and angry voice talking about the end of a love and the refusal to forgive.
Then comes "Quanti Anni Hai" which instead talks about the difficult relationship between a man and a girl (a theme already addressed not by chance in the song Gabri); this song is also very famous and was very successful at the time, also because Vasco later dedicated it to the late Massimo Riva. It's then the turn of "Laura," yet another story of a difficult girl, following Jenny, Silvia, Sally, and Gabri. Laura is expecting a child for Christmas, evidently an unwanted child, but the girl decides to keep it and quit smoking for the sake of her baby.

Again acoustic atmospheres in "La Favola Antica" a bluesy piece where death is discussed through a little story. We are almost at the end of the album. The lyrics of "Idea 77" were some of the first written by Vasco; however, we are faced with the most pointless song of the album, lacking in content and very repetitive. Those expecting a decline at the end, however, must contend with "Rewind" which deviates from the previous atmospheres, being an electronic track that closes the album in an energetic and positive manner.

For those who love Vasco this is probably the peak reached by Dr. Rossi. It is certainly his last official album.

Summary by Bot

Canzoni Per Me marks a significant stylistic moment for Vasco Rossi, focusing on acoustic arrangements and intimate storytelling. The album blends soft, bluesy, and occasionally electronic elements while covering themes of love, relationships, and life struggles. Several tracks, like 'Io No' and 'Quanti Anni Hai,' stand out for their emotional intensity and popularity. This 1998 release is viewed as a crowning achievement and closing chapter in Vasco's discography.

Vasco Rossi’s songs capture you, enter inside you, dig into your soul, and mature as you do over the years.

It’s one of Vasco’s most successful, compact, and personal albums—alive, visceral, nervous, exciting.

"The album, let’s put it bluntly, is literally awful!"

"Rewind becomes the cult song of the modern Vasco: there’s not a person in Italy... who doesn’t know the tune of this supergalactic crap."
