THE REVIEW

"The end of Vasco Rossi" or rather "...And he became Vasco S.p.a." ...there's no better title for this album, "Canzoni per me," released in 1998.

The album, let's put it bluntly, is literally awful! As, moreover, everything that Blasco will produce from this CD onwards will be crap. "Canzoni per me" shifts, compared to previous and respectable albums, to an anonymous and superficial sound: it's not clear whether you're facing (??) Pop music, Electro-dance, or an anonymous derivative of Techno music... the mix of "sounds" and noises (I realized, in the meantime, that it cannot be music) are slapped a bit here and there within the tracks; Rock is absent, the usual refrain of "gentle" chords and sounds goes hand in hand with all eight little songs, the Italian Pop has prevailed.. so Vasco finds himself singing pieces that even Gigi D'Alessio could have sung, surely! That's how it works now.. just satisfy the lobotomized masses.. and there you get rich! Vasco S.p.a., after "Nessun pericolo... per te" (1996), the last (real) album of his career, decided to take the big step (for his own pockets): he conditioned and monopolized the radios first with the very weak "Io no..." and the unworthy "Quanti anni hai" (the first two singles from the junk "Canzoni.. bla.. bla..")... but here's the final blow: "Rewind" becomes the cult song of the modern Vasco: there's not a person in Italy (from the 6-year-old child to the 85-year-old elder) who, between 1998 and 1999, doesn't know the tune of this supergalactic crap, of this musical void, of this Noisy and vomit-inducing Shame!! There it is! The die has cast a 12, the blow hit the mark: Mr. Rossi becomes the idol of contemporary Italian music, the "Rewind Generation" is born, which will give him honor, glory, and gold by the handfuls, every new album of his (one more crappy than the other) will become the best seller of the year, San Siro will become the overcrowded arena that will welcome his new and numerous fans (the old and True ones, thanks to good Jesus, will increasingly fade away), he will become the guest of honor of San Remo, of grandmothers, and of Pippo Baudo.

What a pity Vasco!! You were my Idol, now you just disgust me!

Summary by Bot

The review strongly criticizes Vasco Rossi's 1998 album 'Canzoni Per Me' for abandoning his rock roots in favor of a shallow pop and techno sound. The album is described as superficial and commercially driven, losing the essence that made his earlier work respected. The single 'Rewind' became a widely known but detested anthem among the critic, signaling a shift to mainstream appeal. Overall, the album marks a negative turning point in Rossi's career.

Vasco Rossi’s songs capture you, enter inside you, dig into your soul, and mature as you do over the years.

It’s one of Vasco’s most successful, compact, and personal albums—alive, visceral, nervous, exciting.

We can imagine this album as the perfect closing of the circle by Italy’s most famous Vasco.

For those who love Vasco this is probably the peak reached by Dr. Rossi.
