Great evening that took place on Sunday, January 5, in the warm setting of the Dialma Ruggiero Auditorium in La Spezia. The Spezzina music scene remembered for the second time the late Gianni Bertani, musician and member of INcivili, in the event “Per la barba di Gianni il capitano.”
A sort of multi-sound festival where various acts took the stage: from the Hard N' Heavy of Hide to Desert Of Gobi who thrilled the audience with energetic Hard that clearly harks back to the glorious '80s, given the aesthetics of the members and especially of the singer-guitarist on stage with a very Glam fake wig!
And yet the Spezzini The Holiday Grief propose an Alternative Rock imbued with Dark and Synth Pop reminiscences. There is also room for the Indie Rock of Strawman and the Acoustic Folk of Tullamores. The Pogaroba mix a thousand influences and present them in quite a personal way thanks to the use of electronic instruments and percussion. In their repertoire, there is Rock, Folk, Polka, and Reggae.
But among the best performances of the whole evening is undoubtedly that of the Dirty Boulevard, a local Punk Rock band (for the record, La Spezia has given birth to historic bands of the genre like Fall Out) that shakes the large audience of the Dialma, delivering disruptive and energetic music, also excelling in the cover of “The Seeker” by the Who.
Gianni is also honored by those who knew him personally, among them Gas, an acoustic musician with a portfolio focused on pieces entirely sung in Italian, except for the splendid “The Wild Rover.” And Metal dominates the last uncontested of the evening with Fog, both striking and bestial in scenography and music, an old-school Death Metal, very raw and powerful. The group plays tracks like “Burn Your Sinner” and "Scars Of Vengeance" from the demo “Chaos Regnat” and other old pieces. I take this opportunity to wish the group good luck for their upcoming debut album!
Septem ends with a bang, earning the role of Headliner. Strong with the incredible success they have had and are having with the debut album released in 2013. The five give the audience songs from the album (“Rebirth,” “Purified,” “”Journey To Eternity,” “Mind Loss” and an original and fun version of “Choose Your Death” interspersed with chorus and verse of “Alexander The Great” by Iron Maiden) plus a brand new song played for the first time, “Cielo Drive.” Fabulous!
The evening officially closes with the group playing with Ermanno Ncivili, and after the thanks and praise, the curtain falls on an extraordinary evening, to say the least. Thanks are also due to the two local venues in La Spezia, La Taverna Del Metallo and the Distrò! To be repeated at the next edition!
