The origins of Una Stagione all’Inferno date back to 1997 in Genoa, a city historically and importantly known for progressive music. The founding members were Fabio Nicolazzo, coming from the Genoese gothic scene, and Laura Menighetti - with a classical background - who was joined by the great Diego Banchero from Il Segno del Comando. After participating in the legendary compilation E tu vivrai nel terrore..., dedicated to Italian horror films in which they featured a cover from the theme of the TV drama L’amaro caso della Baronessa Carini, Fabio Nicolazzo and Laura Menighetti revisited the theme in 2011. The idea is to create a concept about the monster of Florence, undoubtedly a very gothic and dark theme that I believe could interest everyone who was fascinated by the event at the time and still continues to be. Moreover, I am not aware of any other albums that have addressed this theme. Thanks to the presence of new talented members and a string section, the project is finally realized now. The atmospheres in Il mostro di Firenze are dark-hued: the settings are in the realm of a dark prog that can reminisce the soundtracks of Italian TV dramas of the '70s. The synergy among the musicians is excellent, and everything evokes unhealthy and tense situations. There are more serene moments like in "La ballata di Firenze" alternating with more frantic and intense ones like in the gloomy "Nella notte.” The track titles such as "Lettera anonima," "Interludio macabro," "Serial Killer Rock," and "Il dottore" follow the progression of the discussed theme with extracts from period news broadcasts. In "Lettera anonima," I can hear the Goblin, while "Serial Killer Rock" is the most upbeat and rock track on the album, highlighted by a powerful guitar riff. Overall, we are looking at a good album that could potentially interest many, given the theme addressed.
