THE REVIEW

The Twinkeyz, a band with the name of a snack, were active from 1977 to 1980.

Originally from California, they released only one album, “Alpha Jerk.”

A Psychedelic Garage sound which, according to the leader Don Marquez, draws inspiration from bands like Ramones, Television, Blondie (!?).

If he says so, it must be true. I, for some reason, would have thought more of Lou Reed's Velvet or certain psychedelic bands from the '60s.

The album is from 1979. Bizarre, extravagant, hallucinated.

A very Ralph Records style, to be clear.

A dirty, lo-fi sound, with an omnipresent array of effects/noises that accompanies and characterizes all the tracks present.

The first of these “Alien in Our Midst,” which is also their first single, is an acid and ramshackle gem, also covered by Game Theory and Yo La Tengo.

The rest proceeds along the same jagged line, although probably at slightly lower levels.

It was, as I was saying, 1979, at the dawn of my third decade, but even today, as we are now at sunset, the album retains its allure intact.

I recommend a listening, which the more attentive it is, the more satisfaction it yields.

Because the material is dense, layered.
