LA RECENSIONE

In the global metal scene (and beyond), I think that such high levels of trash have rarely been reached.

But let's start from the beginning. Take two tenors (Thomas Dewald, a lecturer at the University of Mainz, and Vladimir Grishko, even the Minister of Culture in Ukraine). Pair them with one of the most famous (and controversial) singers in the global metal scene, James Labrie. Then have Dirk Ulrich set everything to rock/metal music, and you'll have "Concerto in True Minor," the first album of the True Symphonic Rockestra, which aims to be an attempt to bring the concept of the "Three Tenors" to the metal world.

Too bad the experiment completely failed, but it's one of those failures that allow no retries.

Let's start with the music. The metal arrangements of the various tracks (great classics from musicals, classical music, and Neapolitan music) have completely failed, as they reduce to pounding drums and a guitar that always seems stuck on 4-5 notes. A sort of "let's make a big mess, after all, this is metal, right?". Sometimes it feels like you're in front of a group of kids who have just started playing electric guitar, so trivial are the various arrangements.

And let's not talk about the 3 "rock tenors," as they have been renamed in the artwork. If the two tenors do their homework and take it home (after all, it's their job), as for Labrie, it's better to just cover it with a pitiful veil. His voice is completely inadequate for the project, and the Italian pronunciation, especially the Neapolitan, has a comic effect that is sure to brighten your darkest days (I recommend "Funiculì, Funiculà").

The album's intent is completely lost, and I highly recommend it only if you're a big fan of Labrie or if you want a good laugh. If you want a taste, on their myspace you can listen to 3 tracks.

Summary by Bot

The review harshly critiques 'Concerto In True Minor' by True Symphonic Rockestra, judging its metal-classical fusion as unsuccessful. While the two tenors perform adequately, James Labrie's vocal contribution is seen as inadequate. The arrangements are described as trivial and messy, failing to meet expectations. Overall, the album is considered a failed experiment, recommended only as a curiosity or for laughs.
