Perhaps they are not well known, but Three Days Grace is one of the few bands capable of creating excellent albums one after another. They started with the self-titled album in 2003, then came One-x in 2006, and finally Life Starts Now in 2009. An album every three years basically, considering that on October 2nd the new CD was released: Transit of Venus.
With this new work, the four Canadians propose what they do best, a powerful alternative metal with gritty guitar riffs, this time with the addition of new electronic instruments. No, it's not a radical change like the recent works of Linkin Park or Muse, it's just small effects useful for filling out the sound of the songs.
The album stands at excellent quality levels, Adam Gontier's voice is powerful and aggressive just right, Barry Stock's guitar capable of generating effective, excellent riffs. The bass and drums are also excellent.
Analyzing the songs in detail, you can see there is no song that falls flat: it starts with Sign of Times, which begins slowly, then bursts into the power of the singer's voice. Following is the first single, Chalk Outline which proves to be an excellent choice. Among the others, the most noteworthy are The High Road, which maintains the typical structure of songs from previous albums, Anonymous, similar in structure to the previous one, but not bad for this reason, Time that Remains, the only acoustic song by the band that does not look out of place among the 12 more energetic friends, Expectation, which features keyboard parts, and Unbreakable Heart, which proves to be a great album-ending song.
Also present is Give in To Me, a cover of Michael Jackson, which was excellently interpreted by the band, adding that extra rock touch.
In conclusion, one can only celebrate the beauty of this album and the band's great musical skills, especially the leader, who confirms himself as one of the best voices in contemporary rock/metal.
