LA RECENSIONE

Expanded time. Blurred images. Guitars that evoke distant worlds… Yes, because words carry little weight in this five-track E.P., the debut of those Verve who then made it big with The Urban Hymns a few years later, the swan song of a group that changed quite a bit over time. And this album is the perfect example of that; I don’t mean to say I don't appreciate the later works, on the contrary, but this and its older brother released in 1993 are something else.

The music is rarefied, as if the notes move cautiously in a thick fog. The voice is rarefied and we can hear its distant echo, as if someone is whispering sweet words into our ear, words that reassure like in "A man called sun": “Walking with a man called sun I think my journey’s just begun” Music that sounds almost decadent for ears that want to rest and dream with eyes open (ears that dream with eyes open?) for landscapes just lit by a ray of sun.
The sound is rarefied and lingers sweetly in long suites like in "Feel", the final track of almost eleven minutes, gently psychedelic, an imperceptible watercolor diluted in shades of blue that starts with drums and a celestial chirping and develops by twisting around itself.
A perfect album to say good morning to a lazy Sunday morning.

P.S. Please excuse me, I only realized at the end that the album was already reviewed. de-genre: PsichedeliaPopCelestiale.

Drink the water to ease my pain
Nights like these I only read about
Nights like these I only dreamt about
As we turned
As we rolled
I felt something strange
I felt you
Something light
Something so bright
I think it was the way of things
I think it was the way of things
Back come back again
Get me a life
Get me a life and see it in everything
Through the dim light
Through those dim lights
I've fallen I'm falling falling falling falling
In the endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life

The Verve

The Verve were an English rock band formed around 1990 in Wigan, associated with a shoegaze/psychedelic early sound and later Britpop success. Fronted by Richard Ashcroft, with Nick McCabe’s guitar widely cited as central to their signature atmosphere, they peaked commercially with Urban Hymns before splitting in 1999 and later reuniting for Forth.

The Verve were one of the most underrated bands of the '90s... their work went unnoticed until the boom of 'Urban Hymns'.

"Feel," the masterpiece of the album, 10 minutes and 41 seconds of music that seems to have come out of a dream.
