THE REVIEW

Here we are, back with another review on this unknown (here on deba) English band, the underground youth.

My first review was on "Madmoiselle" as it was the first album through which I discovered UY, attracted by the cover with Anna Karina on YouTube, as I am very passionate about Jean-Luc Godard and his magnificent, enchanting, stunning cinema. But this is the most "delirious" and magnificent album of the youngsters. "Delirium," a distorted album, a bit psychedelic, very sad (to me), but not easily defined like all UY labeled products.

It starts with a track, one of my favorites, that shows all the nostalgic angst that, at least to me, UY conveys - "Strangle up my mind" - a ballad dragging with a bit of psychedelic melancholy but very sweet. Right after, there is the nebulous Silhouette, one of many anthems to underground love, a classic of these young guys.

Passing through the almost Dylan-esque nursery rhyme of "Dystopia," we arrive at "Persona," a chilling song, with Dyer's sister's drums taking the lead together with her brother's guitar. Chilling lyrics, chilling music.. "you can see the youth in my eyes, I can't die for your sins, but I'll try"..

But it is with the next one that we jump, my favorite of the album, lyrics and melody have never left my head since the first time, "I need you" is a dance under the moonlight, drunk and high, spinning around until you don't get anything anymore!

Finally, delirious distortions, indeed, in "Delirium," and the last two tracks a bit subdued but still in full UY style.

This album is very important to me, emotionally, and perhaps this slightly biases my review, because I associate every lyric with a moment in my life, I can empathize with every lyric of this album, and for me anyone who can do that will be destroyed because it brings out unimaginable things in you. Wonderfully sad, like our life.

P.S. Returning to the cinema topic, one thing I love about these guys is their associating some of their songs with movies on YouTube, and they always make very fitting choices, in addition to having good taste (in my opinion), in this album for example, "Strangle up my mind" with a scene from "Les amants réguliers", "Persona," with Bergman's namesake, and "I need you" with the fantastic "Chungking Express". All films I highly recommend!
