The Triffids were an Australian music group formed in Perth in the late 1970s, led by songwriter and frontman David McComb. They released landmark albums including Treeless Plain and Born Sandy Devotional and were active until 1989.

David McComb led the band; Born Sandy Devotional was released March 1, 1986. McComb struggled with substance abuse and health problems and died in 1999. The Triffids are frequently described as blending folk, rock and post-punk with a distinctively Australian atmosphere.

Three DeBaser reviews praise The Triffids' emotionally vast songwriting and distinctive Australian sound. Born Sandy Devotional (released March 1, 1986) is repeatedly described as a masterpiece. Treeless Plain is celebrated for its variety and youthful passion. The band's story is marked by David McComb's brilliance and tragic decline.

For:Listeners of 1980s alternative/post-punk, fans of Australian rock, readers of music criticism and melancholic songwriting.
