In the end, what is prejudice? Why can't you say that an album, movie, or etc., etc., is bad without having seen and/or listened to it? Because I just can't stand The Strokes, no use denying it, so I want to say this album is bad without having listened to it! Why should I waste half an hour when I could be watching House of 1000 Corpses? Why should I waste half an hour writing this review and filling you with all this nonsense? Maybe it's because the cover already looks like the parliamentary hemicycle redone in cathedral mosaic style... maybe it's because the music of The Strokes reminds everyone of that episode from Ambra's show (the first one after Non è la Rai) in which she called a girl who claimed she couldn't leave the house without first counting every single pubic hair and noting the exact number in a notebook (what is she doing today? Maybe she works at ISTAT); all in all, between this and that, I really think this album can only disgust me... but then two hours ago, for some reason, I decided to listen to it, and the incredible happens! It turns out it confirms exactly what I thought: I can't stand these Strokes!! LONG LIVE PREJUDICE (at least I avoid having to go see Christmas Holidays at the cinema every year)
In this album, it is really Casablancas' voice that expresses itself fully, hoarse and deep, sharp and angry, melancholic and dreamy.
So what’s changed? Simple, the Strokes! They have matured, both musically and lyrically.
The track no. 2, Reptilia, is perhaps the best piece written by these shady New Yorkers.
We are far from the glories of 'Is This It', but we stay afloat, which in this period is not bad at all.
That crazy and fizzy style is still there but rock'n roll is missing!
It's certainly not an album worthy of a 5, not even a 4.
