Almost-sad intro
March 15, I'm in a cold Bologna, alone, with maybe 70, maybe 80 people who seem lonelier than me. On stage, the Spinto Band, who've been playing together for over 15 years, appear younger than me and put their heart into it.
Almost-true review
The Spinto Band also came to present their latest work: Cool Cocoon, although I believe only 5-6 people besides me knew about the release of their two albums in the last 2 years. And this is their most homogenous album, a palette of warm colors well distributed between burlesque and romanticism. It confirms they stand out among the few exponents of sweet pop with a classical flair.
Here they sound tender like never before, childish yes, yet disenchanted at the same time. The themes addressed are adult: dreams nurtured that shatter against reality, memories returning to offer advice, the discouragement of certain periods in life, here they are found less impersonal and more disillusioned.
But the main constant remains intact: playfulness, and it's a minor miracle believe me, a band that always makes you smile is a precious treasure. And the Spinto Band is genuine, musical honey turned into dopamine by the brain. Seeing how few people notice them, I have no doubts about which part of the body "sector" enthusiasts use to listen.
Almost-happy ending
After the concert ended, after asking the singer why they came back to this crappy country, I hugged him, urging him to never stop playing, and a bit moved by the love in the air and the beer, I was about to wet myself, but I held back at the thought of marking one of my heroes. The world is a better place also thanks to them.
