2006 brought us an excellent release.
This is the case with the âThe Prowlersâ and their album âDevilâs Bridge.â Even though this Italian band is relatively unknown, I am one of the metal fans who purchased, a few years earlier, the debut âSouls Thievesâ and got excited when I learned that this second CD was on its way.
For those unfamiliar with the debut, it is solid Pure Power Metal, with some epic overtones, and it is certainly a CD recommended for fans of the genre. With âDevilâs Bridgeâ, the band has moved more towards the progressive, but fundamentally keeps its roots well planted in Power. Since it is full of speed, those who fear the progressive genre should not be scared of it. In fact, I am hesitant to classify it as Power/Prog; Iâd rather call it Power Metal with progressive elements.
In this album, you donât just hear rapid riffs and a thundering double bass drum, but the progressive parts make it a more interesting listen and make it easier to distinguish each song. The CD is quite rich, also thanks to the guitar work and a very powerful rhythm. âDevilâs Bridgeâ is full of impressive songs!
The ones that rise above the rest, however, are track 2 "YTT", track 3 "Invisible Prison", and track 7 "Imagination Game". Moreover, I really appreciate track 6 "Acid One", which is an instrumental with exceptional guitar work. The CD closes with a mini suite, named after the Album, truly very beautiful.
In conclusion, I want to emphasize the excellent mixing work done by none other than a master like Tommy Ansen, producer of almost all of Helloweenâs works. Another arrow in the quiver is the excellent Locomotive Records label.
