Led by Tim DeLaughter and formed in Dallas in 2000, The Polyphonic Spree is a large ensemble often exceeding 20 members. Early albums number tracks as “sections.” Signature songs include Light and Day and Hold Me Now. Visual identity has included white robes and, later, uniform-like outfits.

Three reviews, three moods: euphoric praise for the symphonic, choral sweep of Together We’re Heavy; a lukewarm nod to The Fragile Army’s shift toward conventional indie pop/rock; and a scathing dismissal of the debut’s sugar-rush sound. Expect robes, big choirs, and bigger reactions.
