Truly interesting, this "A Question for Balance" from 1970, a sonic evolution of the The Moody Blues, which began with "Days in a Future Passed", an introductory masterpiece of Progressive rock and a milestone in the history of music.
Much water has passed under the bridge since that distant 1967; however, it is a very pure liquid that makes pure compositions flow with great executive clarity. Just think of the excellent Ethnic Psychedelic material contained in "A Search of the Lost Chord" or the cosmic visions of "On the Threshold of a Dreams" or even the apocalyptic folk of "To your Children..." to reach a sonic pride that baptizes this work as one of the band's most successful.
Personally, I am tired of the track by track - at least in this case. Maybe I would change my mind in front of the so-called right album, but for the moment it is not important.
What matters is that "A Question for Balance" is a celestial Pop-Rock with progressive nuances, featuring an atmosphere that is gentle and timeless. Sure, the echoes of the Beatles are there, but there is also a lot of personality and innovation, especially in the production phase, where the muffled sounds of previous albums are replaced with an equalization, perhaps among the band's most successful.
There is no weak point, even if it is "only" a good album, not pretentious, but which demands respect.
Listen to it to believe it
