I wish i could fly and i wish i could dye. I wish i was the cross in the Othello's eye. I wish i was a stone in those castle walls. So i could be a thousand years old and a hundred feet tall.
Let's all come together. Let's unite our forces and go in search of a key. A key that has locked a door. The one of memory, glory, and despair. Let's go back in time, to the 90s, find it and open the door. At this point of our effort, many bands emerge, but they don't seem to be disturbed; in fact, they rest in peace. But there's one that was eagerly waiting for that door to be flung open. Light and memories again. This band is The God Machine. A cult band by now. Forgotten by many. Especially by the critics.
Extraordinarily powerful music and anguished lyrics. After the first and great work "Scenes From The Second Storey" which I am pleased to see reviewed here, I'll talk about the magnificent and alas last "One Last Laugh In A Place Of Dying". Stunning. Everyone knows why it's the last. Jimmy Fernandez R.I.P. The present members formed a trio in the 90s consisting of the charismatic Robin Proper-Sheppard on guitar, Ronald Austin on drums, and Fernandez on bass. Origin: San Diego. In my opinion, one of the most beautiful albums of those years. They manage to create an impressive sonic wall. Guitars loaded with powerful riffs in the most violent and visceral tracks, see The Tremelo Song, Mama, Painless and Evol where Sheppard showcases the capabilities of his voice. In other instances, we are faced with splendid ballads that cradle and caress you, leaving you suspended between the arpeggios. See the sublime In Bad Dreams and Boy By The Roadside. 14 tracks that leave a mark. One more beautiful than the other.
The God Machine doesn’t stray much from track to track, they don't experiment, they don't alternate genres, but this is precisely why they have become a cult. They created their own sound, powerful, pounding, sometimes intimate. After the breakup, Sheppard formed Sophia, but it's a whole different world.
Cut myself because i can't see the beauty. Feel myself because i can't see the light. Tell myself that i do not deserve this.
