A San Diego–formed trio (Robin Proper-Sheppard, Jimmy Fernandez, Ronald Austin) who relocated to London in the early 1990s. Praised for a dark, towering alternative/post-punk sound; released Scenes From The Second Storey (debut) and One Last Laugh in a Place of Dying. The group ended after bassist Jimmy Fernandez's death in 1994.

Members: Robin Proper-Sheppard (vocals, guitar), Jimmy Fernandez (bass, d.1994), Ronald Austin (drums). Originated in San Diego, moved to London. Recorded a John Peel session in April 1992.

DeBaser reviews present a consistently admiring view of The God Machine: a San Diego trio that relocated to London and produced intense, cathartic alternative/post-punk music in the early 1990s. Their debut Scenes From The Second Storey and the follow-up One Last Laugh in a Place of Dying are repeatedly highlighted. The band's career ended after the sudden death of bassist Jimmy Fernandez.

For:Fans of 1990s alternative/post-punk, gothic-leaning rock, and emotionally intense, melancholic music.

I have never found any band comparable to them: unique, unrepeatable, masterful.
